Obituary of Dirk Broer
Broer, Dirk went to be with his Lord on Thursday, January 18, 2007, in his 76th year, after a brief illness, surrounded by his family at St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital.
Beloved husband of his wife Marian (Gritter) for 53 years. Loving father of Nancy and Jeff Robinson of Calton, Judy and Murray Sluys of Chilliwack, BC, Case and Janice Broer of St. Thomas, Steve and Lorraine Broer of Aylmer, Carol and Todd Smith of Dundas. Predeceased by daughter Janet, and grandchildren, Keith and Rachel Hunsperger in 1991. Beloved grandfather of 23 grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Dirk is survived by his mother, Nancy Broer of Aylmer, sisters Grada (Walter) Zylstra of Dunnville, Josephine (Andy) VanDyk of Strathroy, Tilly (Don) Stafford of Aylmer, and Dora (Norman) Haaksma of London; and brothers Ed (Thea) and Harry (Hilda), both of Aylmer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his father, Cor, in 1988. Dirk was born in Andyk, Noord Holland on February 3, 1931, and immigrated to Canada in 1948. He was a long-time member of the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church, where he served for years as deacon and elder. He also taught youth classes for 30 years and was involved with Immanuel Christian School on various committees. He loved to sing, and for many years was a member of the Fanshawe Symphonic Chorus in London, joining the St. Thomas Men�s Choir �Crescendo� shortly before his death. Dirk established Broer Services Ltd. in Aylmer in 1972 where he was active until recently, and was well respected in the aggregate industry. Visitation will be on Saturday, January 20 from 7-9 p.m. and on Sunday, January 21 from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home in Aylmer. A funeral service will be held at the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church, on Monday, January 22 at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow in Aylmer Cemetery. Donations to St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation, Canadian Cancer Society or Immanuel Christian School would be greatly appreciated.
