So sorry to hear of Alex's passing. Our condolences to Alan & Gerri, David, Joanne & their Family. Both Alex & Grace were a fixture in the Crossley Hunter community for many years & were wonderful neighbours to all who lived in the area.
I have a childhood memory of Grace visiting every year with freshly cut rhubarb when it was in season. Such great neighbours!
Rest in sweet heavenly peace Alex...you & Grace are now together again.

Alex loved to share farming stories and history which made a visit with him so interesting. A remarkable gentleman who truly was humble and appreciative of his life in agriculture, we will miss seeing him out and about on the farm.

For the last 3 years I have looked after Alex. I have prepared him approximately 500 meals, and it’s been the same thing. Meat potatoes vegetable and gravy. I tell him Im a good cook and can make other things, but he was happy with that and didnt want anything else.
During our time together He told me about farming his life as farmer, raising pigs and being a judge of cows. Alex loved to eat and one of his complaints was that he got in a cattle car in Ottawa and it was delayed and he went 24 hours with nothing to eat.
He told me how he wanted a house before a spouse and when he bought this farm then he was ready to settle down. In his younger days according to Alex attended a few dance halls and spun a few misses around the dance floor in his youger days..but none measured up to one woman who became his wife.. his Grace, in Alex’s 102.5 year he survived bladder cancer, an life threatening allergic reaction to peanuts ,suffered a concussion and was gored by a bull, and airlifted to the hospital, the air ambulance bothered him because “he couldnt look out the window ..at the hospital they took sissors and cut his T-shirt off and when they asked him if he wanted it back he asked them if they would put a zipper in it, otherwise it wasnt much good to him.
He had a memory for events and an energy for farming that kept him busy till his 103 year. He had a great way for rationalizing things. Told me he thought about going to Aylmer on the tractor. But it didnt have a windshield, the one with the shield said farm use only.. so no town trips.
I will miss you my friend.. God Speed

Sorry to hear of Alex’s passing. I always knew he enjoyed farming. What a wonderful long life, doing what he loved! Our paths would cross many years ago, at Belmont Farm Supply and Don Carroll’s Ship in Belmont.
Sincerely,
