I had the pleasure of working with and being friends with this great man for over 20 years. He never failed to amaze me with his mechanical insight and abilities but, it will be the time we spent together outside of work over breakfast talking about every subject imaginable that I will miss the most. He loved airplanes, drag racing and his family most of all. Even through his most difficult of times he and Betty were there for my family when we needed someone to lean on. A true friend. Rest in peace Herman, and the next time we meet we'll go flying.

Uncle Herm has always held a very special spot in my heart. When I was younger I dreamed of being a helicopter pilot and thought it was so cool that he was up there in the skies. Years ago I found a quote that resonated with me. I wrote it down and today while rummaging through some cards it fell out. It seems so fitting for Uncle Herm ~ Perhaps they are not really stars in the sky but rather openings where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy and with us always.
