Eugene was an avid London Free Press reader. In our newsroom, if you had a big front-page story, it was a highlight to get a call from Eugene -- reciting the headline and asking all about the story. We sincerely loved hearing from him. I'm fascinated to hear he was an elite youth hockey player and musician, he never told me that in all our conversations.
