Lena and Mac were my second parents when I was a teenager. Lena put up with, and some times encouraged, the shenanigans of Craig, John and their many, many friends. Countless times, after working all day,, she picked up a group of us rowdy boys in her Studebaker after football practice at EEHS. Always with a smile and a warm greeting.
When I talked my wife Nenagh into moving back to Springfield in 1976, we were fortunate to have the McWhinnies as our next door neighbors. Lena made Nenagh feel so welcome to our village and she and Mac spoiled the heck out of two small children with the countless treats from the well-stocked shelves.
Lena had those wonderful dancing, twinkling eyes whenever she smiled or laughed. She was a beautiful woman with a personality to match. We will miss her thoughtful kindness.
Our heartfelt condolences to John, Vicki, Nancy and all of Lena's extended family

Lena was my beloved sister. She looked after me when I was born 91 years ago. She made great ham sandwiches among other delightful treats. She was the best and I never heard her speak badly of anyone. She was a giver--a trait that we all should aspire to. I will miss her !!!!! her little brother Ron

My sincere sympathy to the families of John and Craig. I grew up next door and Mac and Lena who were best friends with my parents Merritt and Mary Brown. Lena was like a second Mother to me. I had visited at Chartwell until Covid struck and jeopardized those lovely talks with Lena. I would love to attend the interment if I have not gone to Florida since I live close to Waterford. Lena was such a great lady. I'm sure she is partying in Heaven with Mac, Craig and my Mom and Dad.

My condolences to Lena’s family. Lena was a very kind and giving lady. Always there to welcome newcomers into her community with a visit or a meal. I have nice memories of working with her at Lions Club functions or at church suppers. She was an engaging lady always keeping up to speed with current events and ready for a conversation. She loved to share stories of her family and always would ask about your family. God Bless You.

Dear Lena’s family; I was saddened to hear of Lena’s passing. I have been friends of Lena (and Mac) for many years. My mom was a resident of Chartwell when Lena came. We had many great visits! After mom passed I still dropped by to see her. Her health was failing when I saw her a week and a half before she passed, although we still had a good visit. Lena was a wonderful lady. Cherish your many great memories! Sending my deepest condolences to all.

We offer our condolences in this time of passing of your dear Mom, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Lena and Mac were dear friends of Tom's Dad & Mom, Fred & Beth too. It was over many years through farming and raising families and involvements in the community that they had a special bond of friendship. We will never forget Lena and Mac's energy and friendships in the church and community. Lena's welcome and kindnesses to all are something we cherish through her. May God bless you with comfort and peace in these days to come.

Mrs McWhinnie was the first neighbour to welcome us to Springfield in 1974, bringing greetings and some food to enjoy! The beginning of a cherished friendship. She and Mac asked me to mow their lawn in 1975, and so began a 40 year successful lawn business in the village. I am forever grateful for her years of friendship and advice.
My condolences to all her family. May your memories bring you comfort in the days ahead.
One of my favourite photos of the McWhinnie's dancing at the Lions Hall.
From a very grateful neighbour
