Obituary of Martin Haalstra
Profound sadness and heartbreak don’t begin to describe losing our beloved Martin Haalstra. He was a husband and father first, but always a dedicated son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend, a shoulder to cry on or a helping hand. He would have done anything for anyone with expecting nothing in return. He loved his life and his children were the centre of his world. He loved nothing more than spending a day watching soccer, hockey, horse riding or any other passion they had. He loved so many and loved to tease so many. His sense of humour was one of a kind, but it’s his devotion and integrity that truly stand out. He was fiercely proud of his Dutch heritage and passed along this love to his children.
Martin left us on Nov 29, 2020 to join his beloved father Edward. His adoring family will be with him always, his wife Lisa and amazing children Caleb, Ethan and his sunshine Avery. He was also much loved by his mother Donna, brother Chris (Tracey), sister Marlene (David). He cherished being the fun Uncle and would never turn down a Fortnite game. He loved his inlaws and loved so much to give them a hard time. His extended family will miss him dearly. He was loved by so many who over the years through hockey, work, PEGO, lawnbowling U of Waterloo and so many other places came to know him. His legacy of kindness, compassion and support will never be forgotten.
We may be lost right now but we are lost together.
In lieu of flowers please donate in Martin’s name to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Ronald McDonald House London, or your local food bank. A private family funeral service will be held. The service will be livestreamed on Monday, December 7th at 1pm on the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home YouTube Channel.
