My condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Judge Marietta Roberts. As teenagers we met at joint meetings of the Sparta-Union United Church Young Peoples group, then later were roommates at Westminster College student residence at Western. Always good humoured and witty, the quip I remember best was the day she was carrying a big box back to the residence (I think a birthday cake for someone on our floor) and was asked what it was. "The ashes of my boyfriend" she replied - which stopped any further inquiries. I am sure her quick wit served her well in her later life as a lawyer, politician and judge.
A sad farewell to the friend of my youth.

The Aylmer Ladies Breakfast Club extends sincere condolences to the Roberts and Lamb families. MR's family was her passion. She was a treasured member of our ‘club’. She was funny, genuine, caring, generous. She always showed a genuine interest in others and frequently asked of our extended families. Her avid sense of curiosity and adventure took her all over the world. She will be missed by so many and sorely missed by the ALBC.

First of all I would like to express my sympathy to Marietta’s family. She was an amazing person, I had the pleasure of getting to know Marietta when I booked her flights for business and pleasure. She went to some interesting places like Iceland and Orient Express. I would deliver her tickets to her home and we would have a visit. As time went on our visits became longer at the kitchen table. I have the highest respect for her. Rhonda Millinger

I first met Justice Roberts in, of all places, the court room. I was the plaintiff in a small claims case which she adjudicated. (I won,) Her calm, fair and firm demeanor impressed me. We later became acquainted in social circles, most often with the ladies of the ALBC, but also in the political world. Marietta and I learned that we shared the same ideologies regarding law and politics and had many great chats. My greatest regret is that my association with the ALBC was only begun after I was widowed and that I didn't have the long history of enjoying her company the others had. Marietta was always genuinely interested in others' lives, experiences adventures and children. One never came away from a conversation with her, no matter short or lengthy , that didn't leave one feeling enriched. I wish her a comfy seat on a soft cloud with a great view, exhilarating conversations and a "wee" dram at her beck and call. The world is a sadder place without you in it, Marietta.
My deepest condolences to the Roberts family and to the members of the ALBC.

My condolences to family and friends. Marietta and I shared a friendship for over 50 years and I have many wonderful memories. We shared several crazy years curling together. She always coerced me into joining her Christmas skits and I smile remembering her sexy Mrs. Claus outfit. My favourite time with her was the summer of 1987 when we knocked on thousands of doors before the writ was dropped in the fall. We were both about the same size and had white hair. When people saw us in our red and white outfits (skirts of course) they couldn’t tell us apart. So I just pretended I was her. Lots of laughs and good stories. She was an amazing role model for young women! I will miss her.

Although I never got the chance to meet Marietta Roberts in person, I got to hear of her through her niece and my close friend of many years, Laurie. Laurie's face always lit up when she spoke of her and it was obvious that family and friends meant everything to her. I just learned of more of her accomplishments through her beautifully written obituary. What an incredible and brilliant person she was!
I am sure she has inspired and encouraged many women over the years and will continue to do so. A bright light to be sure...
My sincerest condolences go out to her family and friends and to all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

I am so sad to hear of Marietta’s passing. She has been a close family friend for so many years. I always looked forward to my visits home to Aylmer to meet up with the ALBC and have a great chat with Marietta. She gave all of herself to everyone selflessly, always on the go, seeking out new challenges. Marietta’s wonderful humour, amazing spirit and friendship will be missed by so many people. I am so blessed to have had Marietta Roberts in my life. RIP dear friend.

We wish to offer our condolences to Marietta's family. We have always admired not only the honourable successes in her professional career but her beautiful caring spirit. What a privilege it would be to have been a student of Marietta's at Alma College, her teaching, mentoring and sharing of her knowledge was part of many future successes of the young women of Alma College. Marietta has a tremendous legacy and example of honour and respect for each other that will live forward. May you each be comforted by the many human touches of God that surround you in this most difficult time. Blessings and peace.

My Condolences to the Roberts family. Marietta always had a smile ready when she met you. The last time I saw her, I wasn't paying any attention to where I was going. You know those nice days driving down a quiet country road and the road ended at a farm. As I turned around this vehicle pulled in and stopped. It was Marietta. Of course we had to have a visit. She was the end of a perfect day, on the perfect road and my visit with a perfect lady.

Marietta was a wonderful and supportive advocate for the Justice of the Peace Bench. It was during her tenure as Associate Chief Justice-Coordinator of Justices of the Peace that our bench reached a major milestone of becoming a sashed bench. To this day, we are proud to don our green sash and Neil and I remember the very day that Marietta presided over this never-before first for us.
She will be sadly missed by our bench.

I grew up in aylmer and Justice Roberts was a friend of my grandmother. Growing up all I wanted to be was a lawyer and she was my inspiration. When I graduated from law school and started practicing it was in Woodstock and for the first decade of my career as a defence lawyer she was the judge I appeared in front of. She was such a great person and judge. She was fair and cared about the people in front of her. After some difficult cases she made a point of calling me to chambers and asking if I was ok.......that's just what she did.
