I had the great honor to be able to bring Buddy MacMaster and Doug MacPhee to perform at the Virginia Scottish Games and Music Festival in July 1989. What a great performance of Cape Breton Scottish music they shared with the packed tent of attendees for the two days of music festival that occurred in the Virginia Scottish Games event on the grounds of Episcopal High School in Alexandria, VA. I was so fortunate to have been able to bring them to perform for us in the Virginia games due to a cultural grant to pay for their travel from the Cultural attache and Canadian Embassy. It was such an honor to have Buddy MacMaster to play at the Festival and I was so grateful he and Doug MacPhee agreed to come and perform for us! Buddy MacMaster was such a wonderful musician and a great person. I am honored I was privileged to meet and get to know him while he was here in Virginia! May he keep the angels in harmony and dancing . I am so sorry to learn this great man is no longer with us. Lisa Anderson- Alexandria, VA

Bud was a character. His big belly laugh and booming voice were his trademark! I can't count the number of sleepovers I had at the McMaster house growing up. Everytime I came into the house, Bud would always ask "what's new kid?" and he actually wanted to know. I know this because Bud would keep asking the question until he got a good story. There was no being shy around Bud. Bud's love for his girls was crystal clear. Ev, Angie and Lori you all brought him so much joy and I am thankful to have been a part of your extended family. Bud will be missed but never forgotten....the legend will live on.

I saw Bud often. Almost every day at 11 am he came into Cy's and had a beer with some friends and made sure that the CBC news was on. He had a distinctive laugh and sense of humour and will be missed.
