For over 35 years, she had a thriving psychoanalytic practice and was an accomplished educator on the faculty of The Union Institute for Psychoanalytic Studies, now Union Institute and University. She taught group therapy courses for the Center for Group Studies in Manhattan and was a supervisor for other psychotherapists. Her interests were many and varied, and included travel, reading, poetry and theater.
Joan’s sense of humor, compassion and generosity added much richness to the lives of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her enlightened view of the world and her ability to understand others were but two examples of her much admired insight. She was a strong role model, inspiring all her students to pursue academic excellence and all who knew her to aspire to a life well-lived. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.
