Bob was my seat-mate at the Times-Journal where I worked in the late '90s designing and publishing the online version of the newspaper, while finishing high school at Arthur Voaden. I'll remember Bob for lots of laughs, advice, and mentorship. I always enjoyed a good laugh or two while publishing his latest humour column to the T-J website. My condolences to his family, friends, and former colleagues.

When I think of my time working alongside Bob at the T-J all those years ago, I am always reminded first of the laughter and the fun he brought to the newsroom. You couldn’t work a day with him without that being a part of it. On the sometimes hard times on the job — or after hitting a bad shot or three on the golf course at Pleasant Valley — that laughter reminded you that life is meant to be enjoyed. It did not surprise me, years after I left St. Thomas for a new job in Ottawa, that Bob had begun to pen a popular humour column. He was made to do that. And now the world is much poorer without the joy and love he brought to it. My deepest condolences to Kate, Robert and all his loved ones.

Working side-by-side with Bob for many years on the T-J desk, often offered time for laughter in the frequently tense atmosphere of deadlines.
We enjoyed flinging good-natured barbs back and forth and so it was funny when a recently arrived managing editor pulled us into his office one day to tell us that we needed to get along better. Bob and I just looked at each other and laughed.
We golfed together ... if what we did could actually be described as golfing ... and the kids enjoyed parade day at his home, even though Bob said I was too glued to the Vanier Cup game on TV. And we never forget the game in high school when he grabbed my face mask and I ended up looking out the ear hole on my helmet (it was less funny at the time).
We shared some smiles and a few laughs on our last visit and I'm glad we had that time together.
Thanks, Bob, for being ... well, Bob.

Jean and I are grieving with you Kate, Robert and loved ones of Bob. I will always remember Bob's humour and kindness and insights. Bob's presence will always remain large to me. I feel honoured to have spent so many years with him in the Times-Journal newsroom, and times in your home because of his generous friendship. It was a remarkable season. May God's peace be on you during this time of loss.

Sorry to hear of Bob's passing. He was a hard worker with a good sense of humour. We worked together at the T-J. He did a lot to get more Aylmer and area news in the paper. A person to be proud of. He'll leave fond memories for anyone who worked with him.

Bob was a super guy and a great friend for many years, from the first day he walked into the Times-Journal newsroom. His wicked sense of humour was a welcome addition and a great stress-buster in a sometimes intense workplace. He will be missed by his family and so many friends and co-workers. All of us have memories that bring a smile and that is an awesome legacy. Love and prayers to Kate and family.

Bob was a special person...who else could make an X-rated cassette tape and put it into a talking Teddy Ruxpin. I was one of his editors for many years and we both shared a bent sense of humour. We would talk music, of course, politics, life and the joy of cheese logs. I will miss him dearly. All my best Kate and to your family.

Katie and family: For several years, my workday in the newsroom would start well before sunrise and Bob's sense of humour would brighten the day long before the sun. To be invited over to the house to watch the Aylmer Santa Claus parade was an honour and never-forgotten experience. I regret I never heard Bob play the guitar. However he is playing in an all-star band somewhere now. You all must have so many fond memories of him and the laughter and his music will always accompany you. Prayers and best wishes.

Kate, Robert, so sorry for your loss. Bob and I spent many years starting workdays at 6 a.m.at the Times-Journal before the wheels fell of print journalism. A strong, respected journalist, he really hit his stride the day he was asked to write a humour column. Legendary stuff. His invitations to the newsroom to watch the Aylmer Santa Claus from your front yard resulted in legendary pot-luck parties - sorry if we stayed too long. He cajoled the T-J into entering a charity trivia contest he was co-hosting - and we did him proud by winning the thing. I loved debating music with him, yet I'm still baffled that he thought Nebraska was Springsteen's best. Bob was a terrific guy, but you knew that. Take care.

My heart is heavy with the passing of Bob. My sincere condolences to Katie and Robert and the rest of the family. Bob was always fun to be around. He was a great musician and the songs he played were always interesting and his interpretation of them, always brought a smile to anyone listening or playing along. I remember how in high school when we were learning how to play guitar, Bob insisted that I come to his house and listen to this new Bob Dylan album he just bought. We listened to those songs for hours and hours all the while trying to learn new chords so that we could play like that. Thank you, Bob for sharing and inspiring me to know what good music is. It was always fun to be on stage with you! You will be missed. Rest in peace, Bob. May the music of the Universe always be with you.
