Eddie was my foreman at Imperail Tobacco, before he went on higher in the management ranks. He was my foreman, but also my friend and a mentor. When the Imperial ripped out the old processing equipment and replaced it with new automated equipment, I went from a "Jack of all" job position in the department to one of the Equipment Operators with alot of responsibility.
I had no confidence in myself that I could master this new position, but Ed had faith in me, which he always mentioned, when I came to him unsure. He made me have the confidence to do the job, which I think I became quite good at. This has stayed with me since then and I credit him to helping me become the confident person that I am today.
I think Ed cared about his employees more than a Boss really should. But that was because he had a huge heart. When I was pregnant with my 2nd child; you would have thought Ed was the baby's father. If I had any heavy lifting or straining, and no helper, he would be there to help me. He didn't care if he got caught doing union work, he didn't want me to harm the baby or myself.
He cared about the people themselves, not just the job they were doing.
I and my old team mates loved Ed as a foreman, and as a person. He will be fondly remembered and missed.
