To: The Martindale Family, and the Supermarine Family I was so sorry and shocked to hear of Matt's passing. I can only imagine the grief that you are feeling. Matt's love of life's pleasures, his strong sense of family and loyalty, and his capacity for fairness made him a remarkable man. It is one of the all-too-common tragedies of life that despite how exemplary a person may live, how strong their integrity, or how much they might be needed by others, bad things do happen to good people. Matt truly believed in the work of his company, and what it was doing for the natural resources of the country. It was more than his business, it was his passion. On behalf of the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, I want to express my appreciation for all of Matt's efforts and contributions. But speaking personally, I want to say how much I value Matt's friendship, hospitality, and commitment to those things in which he believed so strongly. I also want to say thanks for teaching us that you can wear sandals, shorts, and a white T-shirt even if those around you are half frozen.

Please accept our sincere condolences at the passing of Matt. We met this young and dynamic young man at Stevenson College where he and our son Neil were companions and fast friends. It is evident that Matt touched the lives and hearts of many throughout central and eastern Canada. We we are certain that his brilliant smile, can do attitude, love of family, and engaging personality, will be remembered long into the future by all who were privileged to know him. God Bless you all.

Matt and I were brought into the world on the same day (February 6, 1976). We also share our birthday with Ronald Reagan and Axel Rose. I did not have the privilege to meet Matt until Grade 7. I recall him being awkward in appearance and demeanour because he was always bigger then the rest of us Belmont boys. Matt always loved to argue with our teachers, teaching them about physics, all while Matt stuck up for his own convictions. Matt helped me get a job at the tobacco farm down the road from his house, when we were 14. Living at the bunk house, I spent a lot of time with the Martindale's. They fed, showered, and entertained me. I always felt welcome in their home. Matt always knew how to get the hottest chicken wings and always knew how to make a grand exit (i.e. "I've been kicked out of better places than this"). Matt taught me many things including velocity, honour, integrity and how to be a true friend. I will miss Matt because I was proud of him and I knew that I could always count on him.

Dear Martindale Family. May the words of loss and love come from many sources and in large volume at this time of pain and personal loss. Though such words may bring short term relief and consolation, it is the many memories, stories and personal life moments that will eventually win out over the grief of today and the days ahead. Relish in the joys, pleasures and personal moments of enjoyment that were created as those memores begin to unfold. Please accept our heartfelt condolences and best wishes. Jim, K. Sharon: I received the news about Matt from Stephen. I am so very sorry for your loss. I can't find the appropriate words to express my sincere regrets. It is certainly going to be a big void for you and family. I was very appreciative of the help you and Matt provided with our programs and good memories of my dealings and conversations with Matt. Once again Sharon, heartfelt and sincere condolences.

What a shock to hear about Matt's passing! We are so sorry to hear about his passing away. We can't help but think of Matt and his airplane flying around the area we lived in St. Thomas many years ago now. He would more than once fly low and tip his wing just to let you know he was around. I have no doubt Matt will be flying about the airways watching out for all of us be it in Ontario or now British Columbia. Dave remembers clearly driving the tractor on the farm and Matt would swoop down on him just to say "Hello" in his own special way. Our boys all grew up together and although they have gone their own ways and in different parts of the country we will always remember the great guys in our sons life while growing up. Many good and happy memories with Matt.......

I first knew Matt as one of my little brother's annoying friends. As the years passed and we all grew up, Matt's handsomeness and charm won me over. I have many fond memories of Matt and quadding, hot tubbing, cowboy hats, and of course, flying. My condolences to Mrs. Martindale, Liska, and the rest of the family. You will be missed Matt!

Although I have not seen Matt in many years, I can still remember his smile like I had just seen it yesterday. Matt was one of those guys who could light up a room with his presence. It's tough to yet again say goodbye to another classmate.....take care of each other up there guys. I send all the positive strength and energy I have in the hopes it will be of some sort of comfort to his children and family...we're thinking of you all.

Jim and I met Matt last summer thru our son Rob Watson and daughter-in-law Ashley Laur Watson. We knew him for less than a year and came to regard him with much affection as a good friend. He was intelligent, had a great sense of humour, was open minded and was very kind hearted and generous. He was a very good friend to Rob & Ashley and we will always be grateful to him for that. We won’t forget the day last summer when Matt pushed Jim off the boat into the lake, then immediately jumped in after him to “save” him from drowning when Jim faked being limp in the water. Our thoughts are with his family as they cope with this devastating loss. We will miss you Matt, and never forget you. Rest In Peace. Jim & Anita Watson Kitchener

I was very shocked to hear of Matt's passing. I saw him a couple of weeks ago and borrowed his truck and he was not feeling good at this time but it never crossed my mind that it would be the last time I would ever see him again. He spoke wonders about his children and how amazing they were. You could tell he was very proud of them. He was a beaming, proud father that was for sure. Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt's children and family at this time. Lisa Shackleton & Todd Firby and families

There wasn't a moment spent with Matt that wasn't a good one. Most of my stories from my younger and more adventurous days involve Matt, a cowboy hat and a good time. From snowmobiling, boating, trap shooting or out with friends he was always a great guy to have around. He was the type of guy who kept you laughing and stood behind you no matter what. Though being busy with our work and families over the last few years may have kept us from getting together as much as we may have liked, I have always counted him as one of my closest friends. I'll certainly miss his company.

Matt and I first met at the hospital. He and my son Ryan were in a semi-private room just waiting to have their tonsils out. We parents became acquainted and developed a lasting friendship ever since then. The boys also became very close friends in the years that followed. I watched Matt grow up and he was a good natured fun loving polite little fellow. He loved the airplanes just as his father Bob did. He would always make sure you were taken care of before thinking of himself. I will miss him.
