Obituary of Alex Balazs

Balazs: After a courageous battle with cancer, Alexander John Balazs died peacefully at Woodstock General Hospital on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at the age of 66 with his family by his side. Alex leaves behind his wife of 46 years, Maxine (nee Ferguson) who was the love of his life. He also leaves behind his greatest assets: his children, son Alex and his wife Sandy, son Steve and only daughter Michelle and her husband Jeff Cressman. Alex had one very special and beloved grandson: Jaydon Jeffery Alexander Cressman. He is survived by his only sister, Shirley Nagy and predeceased by parents Alex (Al) Balazs and Helen Kohute. He also leaves behind brother and sister-in-laws Joe and Norma Freund, Max and Lynne Ferguson , Jeannie Ferguson and Patricia Ferguson. He is predeceased by brother-in-laws Bill (Jeannie) and George (Pat) Ferguson. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews and dear friends. Alex had a long and decorated career in police services (the second love in his life). He served in Aylmer, Milverton, Exeter and Woodstock. He was also the Chief of Police in Tavistock for over 23 years and finished his career providing security for the Commissionaires at the RCMP headquarters in London. In recent years, Alex put his passion for building to good use - building his own cottage with his family and then spending much precious time with them there. He loved to learn - often self taught - and his computer and iPad were seldom far away. He also discovered a love for photography and leaves a lasting photographic legacy. Alex brought immeasurable happiness and laughter into the lives of all who knew him. He was a wonderful role model and an inspiration. He was extremely proud to be Canadian. He lived in the moment and he chose to be happy. His calm manner, his love and support for family and friends, his sense of humor and the twinkle in his eyes will be greatly missed by all. Family and friends will be received at Kebbel Funeral Home in Aylmer, Ontario on Friday, March 18 from 2-4 and 7-9. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 19 at 11 a.m. at Kebbel Funeral Home, 119 Talbot Street East, with reception following at a location to be announced. Internment will take place at a later date in Tillsonburg with immediate family. Donations in memory of Alex to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated.
