Obituary of Donald Foster

FOSTER- At Parkwood, the family sadly announces the passing of their father Donald Herbert Foster born February 26, 1921 in Malahide Township to parents Thomas Herbert Foster (1962) and Vera Lettie Learn (2001). Husband of the late Norma Jean Light (2000). Survived by five children Wayne Foster (Maureen 2007), Ian Foster (Connie), Doreen MacIntyre (Jim), Diane Allen (Ken), Don G. Foster (Sue) and 14 Grandchildren, 15 Great-Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grandchild Also survived by sister Pauline Roberts (Robert P. 1998), sister Katherine and brother-in-law Mac Howe, brother-in-law Bill Nelson (Ruth 2006), sister-in-law Marjorie Light (Raymond 2004). Don was a D-Day veteran, a soldier in the 43rd Battery, 12th field Regiment, third division and part of the 7th Canadian infantry Brigade who was in the first artillery vehicles landing on D-Day. Don stayed with the regiment as a signaller for the entire run from D-Day until the end of hostilities in the Emms Estuary. After returning home from war, Don and Norma became successful dairy farmers & raised five children. Don served his community on farm and school related committees. In later years, Don and Norma made many friendships as owners of The Happy Hollow Trailer Park in Port Bruce. Many thanks to the Parkwood staff for their care, over the many years that Dad was a resident. Don was member of St. Paul's United Church and Aylmer Legion. Donations to either or a charity of choice would be appreciated. Friends may call at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery.
