Hello from Prince George. Emmett, Edith's grandson and my son, was as sad as I was to learn of Edith's passing: we both feel that she was one of those bright sparks that we all imagine will live on forever, and that I'm sure no one was prepared for her death due to the bright and fiery way she lived her life! Emmett and I had not seen Edith for many years, and although he was very young the last time we visited her together on her farm, I have fond memories of our sleep over there: of Edith playing "this little piggie" with Emmett until late at night; of Emmett wearing one of Edith's signature hand knit sweaters, and of Edith getting a kick out of me picking up the chestnuts that had fallen on her driveway from the overhanging tree. I remember her stopping at every candy machine along the way while shopping in St. Thomas, buying little Emmett one gumball after another, and Emmett being pretty tickled that his mum was not in charge of his food on this trip! I imagine that Edith has seen so much, and so much change in her lifetime. And yet, she has still managed to smile and see the lighter side of it all. Our condolences to all of her family and friends. -Emma and Emmett

My deepest sympathy to your family. In the short time that I cared for Edith.. I got to know her as a lady who led an honest life and sincerely cared for all those around her. She was gentle and kind and so appreciative of everything in her life. It is people like Edith and your family that make my job so rewarding. Those days that are difficult, trying and overwhelming are brightened by the spirit and kindness of patients and families like yours. It was so kind of you to remember me.. lots of times as nurses we feel that our work goes unnoticed. It is people like your family that make my job worthwhile and sometimes in the craziness of it all we forget that we do make a difference in peoples lives. Thank you. I know that she will be missed but she will forever be in your hearts. Valerie Bernard R.N. St.Joseph's Hospital
