Dear Mrs. M. I was one of your original Joy girls and probably credit you and our hospital visits with leading me into nursing. You were always so interested in my familyand my activities and I always tried to have a quick visit when I would return to my "old Hometown". Aylmer was a terrific place to grow up partly because of Mrs. M. And her guiding influence. I will miss her,
Love Carol Leetham

I was a member of the JOY class in the 60s. It was a great experience. Went to St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital every week and several times to Westminster Hospital with her and the other girls. The patients were always so happy to receive their bouquet and to see our smiling faces. After our hospital visit we would go to Dairy Queen. She sure taught a lot of girls the important things in life and gave so willingly of her time. Jean Matheson was a wonderful lady.

I am proud to say I was a JOY girl. Mrs M led by example, she was kind, compassionate and giving to everyone she met. I have many fond memories of Mrs. M from when I was a teenager and after we moved back to Aylmer with our family.
Her message Jesus, Others and Yourself will live on in the many lives she touched.

Mrs. Matheson touched our lives with guidance, love, peace and devotion to others and taught us the love of our Lord Jesus. Always there for us throughout those sensitive and trying teenage years and in some cases beyond, she helped to mold us into the women, mothers and grandmothers t;hat we are today. What a legacy she has left behind.
Her lasting gifts are invaluable to us. The genteel and spiritual life that she lived; always giving, always caring for others and her faith that all the community needs that came to her way would be met financially, God willing. Many times she disregarded her own needs for those of others.
"A life well lived leaves its gentle pattern on the hearts of all and the world is a lovelier place because she touched it with warmth and goodness and grace."
Tonight as we look up, don't think of them as stars, think of them as porch lights welcoming our dear Mrs. M" safely home.
She will be forever in our hearts as we grieve our loss and rejoice that she has received her ultimate reward, her place in heaven.
Sincere condolences to all her family and her "Joy Girls"

Mrs.M, I am so honoured and proud to call myself one of your J.O.Y. girls. Great memories of our every Tuesday routine to the hospital to arrange our flowers, and deliver them to as many patients as we could before 830. We all looked forward to our "treat" stop to Shaw's, and laughed and told all our stories of the evening as each of your girl's got dropped off safely to their homes in all kinds of weather. I cherish these wonderful memories fondly. Gone, but not forgotten Mrs.M :-) Love your J.O.Y girl Darleen

The years of knowing Mrs. "M", where to start. You were like a grandmorther to myself and my sisters Betty Bergen (Wiebe), Netty Reiter (Wiebe) as JOY girls. We have knowen you for all of our lives. It all began wth our grandparents living in rental unit beside you. That's how our relationship began and grew into something wonderful and beatuiful over the next years as I grew from child into youth and adult. You were part of my family events from weddings to birth of children and also all other family gatherings. Can't thank you enough for all your teaching of lives trials and how to over come them. May you rest in peace, you've ran a good race and fought a hard battle. It's all over and you've won and may you rest in peace with your great king of kings and family by your side.
For ever greatful, but sadly missed by entire The entire Wiebe Family

Mrs. M, your "little analytical one" is struggling to find the right words. You were the Rose amongst all us thorns. So selfless and loving, the sheer number of lives you touched and made happier, one old song, or silly tin can wrapped in foil with a flower, or thoughtfully planned out care basket at a time is mind boggling. Not to mention the gentle guidance and life lessons you had for all of us, your J.O.Y girls. You are one of the few who really did make this world a better place, not just through your actions but through the actions of all the people you inspired to try and be better. With all due respect, I will not follow your lead on how to transport a bus load of people in the back of one car, but your lesson on how to be a truly kind, loving decent person I will always try to follow (knowing I will never be able to reach your level) all my love, your J.O.Y girl, Lynne

I am so glad that Auntie Jean is finally at peace and with her Lord. Over the years Auntie Jean always remembered the birthdays and anniversaries of family and friends. If sickness struck there was always a get well card and note of cheer to help you through the day. When I was in hospital for back surgery many years ago when you were in for more than a day or two (more than a month to be exact) she sent me a get well card almost every day. She had the most beautiful handwriting and there was always a lovely note and a prayer. Cards came for all occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, etc and her kindness to me and my family will always be remembered. Rest in peace Auntie Jean.

My dear Mrs. M. you were a very important person in my life. I remember so many special events of my life that I shared with you. You were there when I was a child, a teenager and a grown woman. I won't be able to mention all the times I recall with you but they were all so very special because you were so very special. You were a blessing in my life as you were in many peoples. You shared all of you and all you had to serve the Lord. I know you are at peace now and happy to be with your family who you cherished so much and with the Lord who you loved and always put first. We here will miss you so much and will cherish our memories.

My family lived only 3 blocks from Mrs. Matheson. I grew up stopping by her home at lunch time for a candy and visit. Later years I learned how much of an icon and inspiration she was to so many people and young girls in particular. She gave so much of herself and time to our community. She was such a beautiful soul and will be missed so very much!

Mrs. Matheson was a Mother, Teacher and Mentor to many many young women. She was truly the finest example of a Christian woman I have ever met. I met her when I was just a very young girl and became closer with her with every year of my life. She was a kindly person to all and I loved her very much. As one of her JOY girls I will cherish all the memories of the times I spent with her. My condolences to her family and to all who will miss her as much as I will. No one has influenced me so greatly and I'm sure I will never meet anyone again who I could feel the same about. Her message of Jesus First, Other next, yourself last is a message that will stay with me forever. I know God will Bless Her Soul and keep her in a very special place in heaven with him who she served so well.

Mrs. M was a truly remarkable woman. she welcomed each and everyone one of her "girls", which I was one, as if we were her own. Her kind, sensitive, compassionate and loving demeanour were reflected in everything she did. I was very touched when I met her in my adult life when she told me that she kept all the letters that I had written to her when I was in university. it was always a treat to visit with her. She was such a seed sower and taught us in our early teenage years that by putting Jesus first, Others second, and Yourself afterward, you would know true JOY. Jean, you were 100% correct. Thank you
