My dearest Shirl... You were a shining light in my life and my family! Your presence, your unconditional love and your witty truthfulness is instilled in me. I truly believe Creator / God brought us together, I needed you and you needed us. We may not have been blood relatives but we were in Spirit. For that, you will always be in my heart, my Migitjoo Shirley. Shirley was very humble, a true Mohawk Elder. She spend her life helping people, young students going to college and she wasn't shy to tell anyone how it was. She did and said these things because she cared. If anyone really knew Shirley, you'd agree. Shirley loved to volunteer, she was very dedicated to her commitments, whether it was to be with sick people or just to keep them company at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Help out by baking cooking, sitting on conference calls and monthly committee meeting with the Halifax Urban Aboriginal Head Start Program and attend board meeting with the Halifax Native Friendship Centre, Shirley was always there. Shirley was very proud of her Mohawk heritage, she was truly an amazing Elder. Kesalul, Wela'lies, aq Nmu'ltes Migitjoo! (I Love you, Thank you, and I'll see you again Grandma
