Obituary of James Smyth Kyle

JAMES SMYTH KYLE Peacefully, in his sleep, on Friday, November 21, 2014, James Smyth Kyle in his 88th year. Also known as: Jim, Paddy and Seamus. Predeceased by his beloved wife, partner and best friend of 59 ½ years, Margaret, in 2008. Born in Londonderry, N. Ireland on July 8, 1927 to the late James Pollock and Sarah (Smyth) Kyle. Also predeceased by a younger brother, Samuel Kyle. Dear father of Gerald and his wife Krystyna of Houston, Texas and Susan and her husband John Beekman of Aylmer. Loved Grandad of Sean (Nicole), Sarah and Eric. Proud Great Granda of Logan James of Denver, Colorado. Brother-in-law of Donna Brunger of Comox, B.C. and Beryl Dawes of Freeland, U.K. Jim is also survived by a niece, a nephew and a great nephew in Canada as well as others in Northern Ireland and England. Jim came to Canada in 1957 and to Aylmer in 1971. He joined the Royal Navy at the age of 17 to 'see the world' and left 12 years later as a Chief Petty Officer. In Canada, he was employed by Imperial Tobacco Limited in Hamilton, Guelph, Montreal, Delhi and Aylmer for a total of 35 years. During this time he studied at night school at McMaster University, McGill University and by correspondence to complete his designation of Registered Industrial Accountant in 1971. He finished his career in 1992 as Manager, Leaf Administration, Imperial Tobacco Limited, Aylmer. Jim was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 81, Aylmer, the Masonic Temple and Trinity Anglican Church. He volunteered his financial skills as Treasurer over the years to St. Michael's and All Angels Anglican Church, Montreal; Trinity Anglican Church, Aylmer and the Aylmer Curling Club and as a member of the Committee of Adjustments for the Town of Aylmer. Special thanks to the staff and friends of Terrace Lodge for their care, support and friendship while Jim resided there, especially to the nurses and caregivers of Lower South. Cremation has taken place and a family service for the scattering of ashes in the old St. Thomas Anglican Church yard will take place at a future date. Donations in Jim's memory can be made to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 81, Poppy Fund; St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital Foundation; or the Ontario March of Dimes, Stroke Recovery Association would be appreciated.
