Obituary of Joseph Kirby

KIRBY, John Joseph (Joe) formerly of St. Thomas and Aylmer, passed away peacefully at Regina Gardens Long Term Care Home in Hamilton, ON, on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 in his 91st year. He was predeceased by his wife Helen ( 2006) , a daughter Mary Frances (1949), his parents John F. Kirby and Catherine (Brohman) Kirby, and nine sisters. Joe attended Notre Dame College in Wilcox, Saskatchewan, and St. Mary's College in Brockville. He worked thirty years for the Pigott Construction Company in Hamilton, and retired as Field Controller. Joe and Helen came out of retirement to become curators of the Elgin County Pioneer Museum in St. Thomas for several years. They were also members of the St. Thomas Antique Club. Joe is survived by his son Todd and wife Jennie, and their children, Christopher, Patrick and Kelly, and by son Grant and his children Ian and Melissa. Joe was loved and respected by his family and many friends in St. Thomas, Aylmer, Port Burwell, Freelton, Hamilton, Ancaster and Burlington. Special thanks are extended to Dr. Emili and the caring staff of Regina Gardens. Visitation will take place at 9:30 am on Saturday, May 17 at Kebbel Funeral Home, 119 Talbot Street E in Aylmer. Immediately following the visitation, a funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic at 116 John St. S. in Aylmer.
