Obituary of Lea Honsinger

Honsinger (Smitheringale), Lydia Rosada, at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospi-tal on Sunday, June 29, 2014, took her final journey to be re-united with her husband Ben-jamin F. Honsinger (May 8, 2014). Lydia or Lea as she was known is survived by her two daughters Diann (Allen) and Donna (Emiel). Lea was pre-deceased by an infant son Ben-jamin Jr. A loving grandmoth-er to Deborah (Tim), Angela (Frank), Tracy (Greg), Jay C., Michelle C., Angela (Paul), Melanie (Darren) and Michelle T. and to her great-grandchildren Kyle, Kory (Bri), Marcedes, Sara, Kristen and Reis. Her greatest joy was the recent birth on May 30 of her great-great-grandson who was given the second name of Benjamin in honour of his great-great-grandfather. Lea was born in 1920 to parents Arthur and Sarah Anne (Fletcher) Smitheringale in Rothwell, New Brunswick and was quick to tell everyone the N.B. stood for None Better. She was a coal miner's daugh-ter. Lea was predeceased by two sisters May and Annie and by one brother Leslie. As a young woman in the early 1940s she moved to Hamilton, Ontario where she was soon to meet the love of her life for 72 years, Ben. She leaves behind an extended family of nieces, nephews and close friends. Grandma will be forever loved and missed by her companion and watch dog Roxy. Lea was a 29 year member of The Royal Canadian Legion Lord Elgin Branch 41, St. Thomas. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held at the family plot in Springfield at a later date. H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home in Ayl-mer is in charge of arrange-ments. In lieu of flowers, do-nations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Alzheimers Society. Lydia was a loving wife, mother, grand-mother, great-grandmother and friend.
