Benjamin F. Honsinger
It is with sadness we announce the passing of Benjamin F. Honsinger on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. Ben is survived by the love of his life for 72 years Lydia (Lea) (Smitheringale) and his two daughters Diann (Allen) and Donna (Emiel). He was predeceased by an infant son Benjamin Jr. He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren Deborah (Tim), Angela (Frank), Tracy (Greg), Jay C., Michelle C., Angela (Paul), Melanie and (Darren), Michelle T. and by great-grandchildren Kyle, Kory (Bri), Marcedes, Sara, Kristen and Reis. Ben was the eldest son of Ruby (Carter) Honsinger and Norman Honsinger. He was the last of his siblings, Homer, Norman (Audra), Joe (Noreen), Theresa (George), Ada (Gord) and Peter (Pat). Many nieces and nephews are left to mourn their Uncle Ben. Ben joined the OPP in Petrolia and was then stationed in Woodstock. He left the OPP to become Police Chief in Petrolia. His career then took him to be Registrar of the Supreme Court in Sarnia. He retired from security at the Bruce Nuclear Plant in Port Elgin where he was affectionately known as "Mr. Clean". He was a life member of the Aylmer Shrine Club, a member of Branch 41 Royal Canadian Legion in St. Thomas, and a life member of the OPP Veterans Association. As per Ben's wishes cremation has taken place and a private interment in the Springfield Cemetery will take place at a later date. H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home in Aylmer is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Shriner's Hospital, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 41 Poppy Fund, the Alzheimer's Society or to Heart and Stroke Foundation.
