Obituary of Ken Matthews

Matthews, Kenneth of Aylmer and formerly of Pt. Burwell passed away suddenly at London Health Science Centre- University Hospital on Saturday, December 7, 2013 in his 74th year. Beloved husband of Marie (Shelly) Matthews. Dear father of John Matthews of Aylmer, Jeff Matthews(Barb) of St. Thomas, Jim Matthews(Nancy) of Aylmer and Jeremy(Rebecca) Matthews of Aylmer. Father-in-law of Jackie Matthews. Loving grandfather of Mackenzie, Quinn, Duncan, Abbey, Patrick, Tom, Carrie(Glenn) and Jaxson. Brother of Jerry(Heather), Ed(Vivian), Cindy Molyneux(Ron), Candy Park(Norm), Penny Perry. Brother-in-law to Ted Shelly(Carol), John Shelly(Linda), Derek Shelly, Fred Shelly(Polly), Pauline Shelly. Also survived by number of nieces and nephews. Born in Bayham Township on December 29, 1939, son of the late Malcolm Matthews(1963) and the late Eileen (Smyth) Van Ness(2000). Predeceased by his father and mother-in-law Sidney and Kathleen Shelly and a brother-in-law Brian Shelly. He was an Ontario Land Surveyor for 42 years. Ken was active in the Port Burwell Community, serving on both the Port Burwell Fire Department and as a village councilor for many years. He umpired fastball and coached minor hockey. Ken was a member of the Trinity Anglican Church in Aylmer. Friends may call at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Monday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, December 10, 2013 at 11:00 am. Interment, Trinity Anglican Church Cemetery, Pt. Burwell.
