Obituary of Bill Caverly
Caverly, Wm. R. "Bill" at Terrace Lodge, Aylmer on Thursday, January 26, 2012 in his 96th year. Bill Caverly a lifelong resident of Malahide Township. Beloved husband of Laura (Cole) Caverly. Father of Paula Vereecken and husband Eric of Vienna and children Mike, Tracy and Angie, Todd Caverly of St.Thomas and John Caverly and wife Brenda of Oshawa. Brother of Birdie Hext. Also survived by Donald and Nancy Caverly, George and Beth Caverly and their family and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by an infant daughter Betty, a sister Killimeny Milliken, half brothers Frank and Jack and a half sister Beatrice. Bill was born in Malahide Township on June 11, 1916, the son of the late Sanford and Mary (Smith) Caverly. He owned and operated Caverly Meats for over forty years. Bill was a member of Malahide Township council for 31 years and was Reeve for 19years. He also had served as Deputy Reeve. Some of his political accomplishments that he was most proud of include the creation of Terrace Lodge, the introduction of a dedicated ambulance service for Aylmer and Malahide and the starting of the volunteer fire department in Malahide Township. Bill was a member of Elgin County Council and Warden in 1970. He served on numerous municipal boards and is a past chairman of The Catfish Creek Conservation Authority. He was a veteran of World War II. The family will receive friend at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Saturday 7-9 pm and Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 where the funeral service will be held on Monday January 30, 2012 at 11:00a.m. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery.
