A private funeral service for Gordon Phillip Gent, 94, of R.R .# 1, Springfield will be held with Rev. Janess Binns-Landell, officiating. Public visitation will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Tuesday, June 5, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Interment Dorchester- Union Cemetery. Gordon died peacefully at the Elgin Manor on Sunday, June 3, 2007. Born in Kingsmill, Ontario son of the late John and Rachel (Smith) Gent. Gordon (age 18) with his brother Aldon (age 16) took over the farm with their mother after their father was killed when a tree fell on him while cutting wood in February of 1931. Gordon attended Mount Vernon School, Martin School, Springfield School and East Elgin High School. Gordon and Aldon were dairy farmers and farmed under the prefix Gentcroft Holsteins until 1979. He later farmed with his family under the farm name Gentleacres. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Beulah (Rickard); son, John Gent, daughters Marie Giret, Betty Hope and husband Rod, Doreen Shepherd and husband David all of Springfield area. Thirteen grandchildren Joelle, Jeremy, and Jonathan Giret, Brandi, Sandi and partner James Ede, Candi, Jacqui, Brittney, Chelsey and Brandan Hope; Dylan, Ethan and Tanner Shepherd; great grandchild Katrina Hope-Ede; sisters Doris Hutchinson and Audrey Jenkins. Predeceased by a son-in-law Daniel Giret, brothers Leo and Aldon Gent and a sister Olive Ponting. Donations to the Elgin Manor or St. John's United Church, Springfield would be appreciated.
