Obituary of Margaret McKechnie

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Margaret Rose McKechnie on Wednesday, September 18th, 2024 in her 89th year.

Margaret was born on June 7, 1936 to the late John Charles Laver Grimes & Ida Phyliss (McFarland) Grimes in Port Colborne, Ont. Her Mother died when she was only 11 years old. Margaret became a school teacher and her favourite passion was teaching children to read.

She married Dugal Reid McKechnie on July 13 1963 & they had 3 children. On May 2, 1987 her dear husband died. She spent a few years teaching at a Christian school again. After that she spent many winters in Lakeland Florida & summers on Manitoulin Island. (both at Christian camps) She always loved adventure & to travel. She loved her family dearly & attending church was very important to her & reading her Bible always brought great comfort. The last few years were a great struggle with her health. We rejoice knowing she is now free from pain & at home with her Saviour.

Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband Dugal Reid McKechnie (1987). She will be deeply missed by her children, Debbie Peters (John)of Vienna, Cathy Bacon (Paul) of Thorold South, and Doug McKechnie (Liz)of London. Margaret had so much love and was loved by all her 14 grandchildren: Janet (Curt), Tim (Cassandra), Sandra, Emily (Ben), Sam, Katie, Mary, Rebekah, Ben, Andrew(Colleen),  Hannah (Andrew), Noah, Abby and Lucas, and her 11 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

She will also be missed by her sisters Phyllis Mitchell of London and Jeanne Grimes of Port Colborne. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 12noon-2pm where the funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment at Grimesthorpe Cemetery, Manitoulin Island, will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2024. Donations to the Gideons International or a charity of choice would be appreciated. Share memories or condolences at kebbelfuneralhome.com
