Obituary of Eliane Mattheus

Mattheus(VanDenEeckhout), Eliane of Aylmer passed away peacefully with her family by her side at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Sunday, August 11, 2024 in her 90th year. Beloved wife of the late Maurice Vandecasteele(2021) and the late Richard Mattheus(1964). Dear mother of Daniel Mattheus(Joyce) of Chatham, Suzanne Mattheus(Bob) of London and the late Christiane Whitman(2005)(Donald). Also survived by step-children Shirley Evely(Craig) and Ron Vandecasteele(Lisa), sister Celina Jacobs(Alois), brother-in-law Sylvere and sister-in-law Esther(Jules). Loving grandmother and great-grandmother of Richard(Amber), Travis, Tyson, Caitlyn, Jordan, Noah and many nieces and nephews both in Canada and Belgium. Predeceased by an infant son Eddie(1955), siblings Emma DePaepe, Gabriel VanDenEeckhout, Camiel VanDenEeckhout, Frans VanDenEeckhout, Mary Tanghe, sisters-in-law Mary Rommel, Martha Decloet and Julia Verbuyst. Born in Nieuwerkerken, Belgium on May 31, 1935, daughter of the late Justine Caulibut and Dominique VanDenEeckhout. Eliane moved to Canada in 1950, farmed tobacco in Corinth and then moved to Tillsonburg where she worked at the Tillsonburg Hospital and Tim Horton’s. Recently resided in Aylmer and was a long-time member of the Our Lady of Sorrows R.C. Church  and CWL. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing cards and spending time with her family. Visitation will be held at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Tuesday from 6-8:00 p.m.  A funeral mass will be held at the Our Lady of Sorrows R.C. Church, Aylmer on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. Interment, Queen of Peace Cemetery. Donations to Arthritis Society Canada or The Hospital for Sick Children Foundation would be appreciated.
