To the Buis and Maracle Family
Brenda, today we celebrate “you”,
Happy Heavenly Birthday
I met you when I moved to Aylmer back in 1972.
We shared many swim meets, slumber parties, school trips, and sporadic adventures in our younger years. I will never forget the memory I share in this photo. The Whispering Pines in TurkeyPoint. We enjoyed a weekend away with old friends (one that you organized, and we celebrated your birthday) I called it “Berrrkele’s Birthday Bash, and remember us all howling over me trying to teach you some Finnish words after a few around the camp fire, mostly the bad ones lol…
We were such free spirits and I will never forget “YOU”, Brenda. Your love of friendship means so much and I will continue to hold and cherish that forever.
Ó:nen ki’ wahi konnorónhkwa you are free!

I met Brenda as a young girl when I moved to Aylmer. She was fascinating! A real energetic spirit, athletic and fun. When I think of her it makes me smile - she brought a lot of joy to people. I was shocked and saddened to read that she had passed away. My heart goes out to her children and grandchildren - such a loss. Condolences to all her family.

Brenda and I were Aylmer Pool buddies. We were swim instructors and lifeguards together and she was the "big sister" who was often in charge and kept us all organized and in line :). I have fond memories of my summer time with her...she always had a smile and a laugh to share...she was a great friend and work colleague. I'm sending my deepest condolences to her family and close friends at this sad time. Cherish your memories...Brenda was a special lady <3 <3 <3

Brenda there was rarely a dull moment when being near you! Our sons brought us together and we chose to be friends. Your sense of humour and wit had no end. I lost track of how many fabulous pig roasts you and Jim hosted over the years. The PD day that you organized and invited numerous friends of Quincy's to a cookout in the bush and although you had hoped for more parental help, there we were to enjoy the perfect day. The sun, fun and fishing at my family cottage in Muskoka where a large snapping turtle presented itself for the afternoon for us to all enjoy (which you so appreciated). The 'girls only' road trip to Buttermilk Falls, 45 min. east of the Muskoka's. Numerous hockey outings and tournaments. I'll never forget your leopard print slippers that you wore down to the bar in the Blue Mountain Resort... when I complimented you on your snazzy slippers, you said, "Yep, I'm really gonna cut a rug tonight"! I referred to you as an off duty life guard! It didn't matter where we were, if we were near water you were always watching to make sure "kids" were safe. Thanks to your quick response at a large pool party, a young child was safely taken, wet, to the parents that were clearly providing no supervision. I was thankful that you reached out after several years when I moved away. It was nice chatting and reminiscing. You were so very proud of your children and grandchildren, and I am thankful to have been able to be an empathetic ear for you while you were struggling with Jim being ill. My heart hurts for your kids and grandkids with losing both you and Jim in such a short time. I wish you well my friend! My sincere condolences to all of the Buis and Maracle families and friends.

Being from the city and moving to Aylmer back in the 70s, Brenda was one of “the group” my first friends. She could really get our group going in so many wonderful, funny, quirky ways. Her zest for life was evident, she was always a take charge kind of girl. We had many girls sleepovers back in the day. The photo I’m attaching is a celebration of one of Brenda‘s birthdays. We took out the pontoon boat. Had such a fun day. Brenda, your spirit always shone bright and you will be so missed. Rest easy my friend, until we meet again. Love ya Longtime!

I will always remember Brenda as kids at McGregor Public school, (Grade 4) we first met.
She was very athletic and excelled in gym class.
She had a disposition of assertiveness that said if you treat me with respect you’ll be respected in return.
We went on into grade 7, 8, at Davenport and I’ll always remember her as being happy and smiling.
She took no crap from boys that would try to dish it out.
Brenda had an aura that people just knew she was focused on zero tolerance for any crap, Lol. I always respected her for this.
I believe I never seen her again after grade 8.
She will be missed.
Her legacy will live on through her children and grandchildren.
My condolences to all her family and friends!

My memories of Brenda, my younger sister are mostly good ones. She kept me up to date about her children and grandchildren and had many funny comments. Brenda's life was full of sports and events that she excelled in many ways. The natural balance she had on a balance beam was amazing, she was a natural diver and was great to watch when she dove off the 3 metre diving platform. With all of her swimming assets I know she will cross the river to the other side and be met by loved ones. I will miss her greatly.

So sad. Praying for you all...kids, Grandkids, sister Sue and others, as you grieve. She was so proud of her family. Treasure the good memories and forget the hard ones. Loved Brenda as a swimming partner and friend (even though I sometimes cringed at her language). She touched many lives with her open, feisty spirit.

Listen - Be there - Be present - Be a friend - Be love - Love is the thing that lasts. when you receive a life message you must learn to accept and react. We all get them, I am eternally grateful I made the decision to act upon my message received. I was speaking with Brenda a week ago and got this overwhelming feeling I needed to see her - I decided to make the drive immediately for a personal visit - I told her I was on my way to see her “can I get you anything” - “yes” she replied - “ a Diet Coke please” to the drive through I went - arriving 20 minutes later - Brenda’s smile lit up the room not sure if it was me or the Diet Coke - whatever - we sat and visited for a few hours - little did I know that would be my last face to face visit with my sister. Angels directed me to Brenda that night I got the message and did not waste the opportunity it presented I urge you not to dismiss these signs- you are given them for a reason pay attention- I will miss Brenda with all my heart I simply loved her just as she was - follow the smoke Brenda- hugs to our family who welcomed you

I am absolutely hurt reading this as i had sent prayers for Jim, me and Brenda had a good talk and she had asked if i would come down in August, we often talked abput the culture and Native traditions, years earlier we discussed preventative measures for alcoholism, she was respectful of my sobriety and the fact the Elders across Canada and the USA, were my teachers, my heart goes out to her and i pray the Grandmothers and Grandfathers welcome her Spirit, my tears are tears of happiness, i believe you've went home, the demons are behind you, i know you'll rest in peace, the memories will be treasures, rest in peace.....luv ya Uncle Crow......

It is with a heavy heart that I am writing this today. The only thing that brings me peace is knowing that you are with Jim once again and are no longer struggling through each day. Alcoholism may have been what you had, but it was certainly not who you were! You have been in my life from the start with trips to the Aylmer pool, helping with birthday parties, lifeguarding together, backyard swimming and BBQing, and spending time with me and mom in Arizona while training for an Ironman…and I cherished every moment…love you forever and always…follow the smoke Aunt Brenda…(it will led you to the Diet Coke, the nectar of the gods!)
