Kornelis Smit of Aylmer passed away peacefully at his home on January 11, 2024 in his 91st year. Beloved husband and partner to Lia of over 62 years.  Dear father of Nelly Provoost, Jack Smit and partner Dean, Lisa Helder and husband Frank.  He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Mark Provoost and wife Hayley, Brad Provoost and wife Caylee, Kevin Provoost, Janelle Groenenberg and husband Paul, Corey Helder and partner Angelica.  He will be also missed by his great-grandchildren: Mia, Reece, Lylah, Bowen, Trigg, Annabelle, Summer, Olivia, Tobias and Koa.  He is survived by his much loved siblings and their spouses Connie, Henry & Cynthia, Annie & Pieter, Martin & Maria, John & Marie, Esperanza, Anny.  Predeceased by several siblings: Tina, Kornelis, Cora, Lloyd, Ralph and Jim.

Born in the Netherlands on February 21, 1933, son of the late Tammo Jacob and Henderika Smit.

Kor, along with his family, immigrated to Canada in 1951. Being a hard worker, he quickly found a job working for a local farmer.  In 1966, Kor with his wife and young family purchased a farm near Springfield which they farmed for almost 3 decades.  In 1995 Kor and Lia retired, sold their farm and served as custodians of their church for an additional 14 years.  In 2001 Kor and Lia purchased a second farm on College Line which is now being farmed by their grandson Brad.  Kor continued to be an active member of the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church throughout his life.  Kor enjoyed going on adventures such as canoe trips to Algonquin Park and a Habitat for Humanity build in Iqaluit with son Jack.

Friends and family may call at H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Sunday, January 14, 2024 from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm.  The funeral service will be held at Aylmer Christian Reformed Church on Monday, January 15, 2024 at 11:00 am.
