Obituary of Mary Wicks
Mary Jane Wicks
January 13, 1937 – November 11, 2023
Passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at Amica Seniors residence at the age of 86 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimers as well as other health issues. Mary was the beloved wife of Bob for 66 years before his passing in 2021. Mary will be greatly missed by her children Heather, Teresa Young (Stefan Young) and Alan (Denise Ridley), loving grandmother of Christopher Wright (Marissa Genge), Catherine Wright, Matthew Wicks and Nathan Wicks, Great-grandmother to Grayson Wright, Lincoln Wright and Lucia Wright. She will also be missed by her loving sister, Betty Ann Lochhead and her nieces and nephews.
Raised in Aylmer, Ontario, Mary married the love of her life Bob in 1954 and soon after started a family. Bob’s job at the Bank of Montreal started taking the family all over the country. Mary was a loving mom and did a great job bringing up the children with a warm and caring heart.
As the children got older Mary took on part time jobs at K-Mart and Woolco which she enjoyed immensely and met many new friends. When Mary retired she joined a Senior’s club and also enjoyed lawn bowling and 5 pin bowling.
As grandchildren started to arrive Mary relished any opportunity to visit her grandchildren. She was so proud of them all and watched them in sports and many other activities.
Mary, already a breast cancer survivor developed Alzheimers later in life and was eventually wheelchair bound due to broken hips. Despite all this Mary had a positive attitude and could be heard singing from her wheelchair to her favourite playlist of songs.
She will forever be remembered and sadly missed by all.
The funeral service will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. with visitation one hour prior. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Mary’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society. A heartfelt thank you to all the staff at Amica, Dr Palmer, and longtime family doctor, Dr Richard Chen.
