Obituary of Marilyn Gillies

Gillies, Marilyn of Aylmer passed away peacefully with her family by her side at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Monday, August 7, 2023 in her 83rd year. Beloved wife of Bob Gillies. Dear mother of Gerald Ellis(Judy) of Golden Lake, David Ellis(Kim) of Aylmer and Dean Ellis of Golden Lake. Mother-in-law of Donna Ellis. Step-mother of Laurie Waldie(Keith), Rob Gillies(Denise) and John Gillies. Loving grandmother of Tyler, Derek, Nicole, Steven and step-grandmother of Mark, Shawn, Jeff, Greg, Amanda, Emily, Haley and Braydon. Sister-in-law of Anne Laur and Pat Laur(Wayne). Predeceased by her son Terry Ellis, brothers Grant Laur(Joyce), Fred Laur(Betty), Ralph Laur and sister Myrna Barham(Bruce). She will be missed by a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.  Born in St. Thomas, Ontario on November 6, 1940, daughter of the late Wynfred and Stella(Jackson) Laur. Marilyn owned the Goldcrest Lodge from 1973-1980 and later worked for the Elgin County Board of Education in the transportation department. Marilyn was a member of St. Paul’s United Church. Bob and Marilyn enjoyed many summers at their trailer at Fin & Feather. Visitation will be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Sunday August 13 from 1-4 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday August 14, 2023 at 11 a.m. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery.
