Obituary of Ida Janssen

In His infinite wisdom, the LORD suddenly called home Ida Janssen of Tillsonburg on April 18, in her 92nd year. Cherished wife & beloved helpmate of Gerrit Johan (George) for over 68 years. Loved Mom of JoAnn Buist (Tony 2019); (Ida 1995) and Ted DeJong; Bernice Janssen de Wolf and John; Shirley and Ken Talsma; Marlene and Dave Lendvay; and Bev and Marcel Van Straten. Loving Grandma to 13 Grandchildren and 23 Great-Grandchildren.  Also survived by one sister, Nellie, brothers, Harry(Marlene), Casper(Gretha) and Neil Van Gurp, and  sisters-in-law, Wilma Van Gurp and Marie Somsen  (Holland). Predeceased by three sisters, Gerrie Saarloos, Marie Van Gurp, and Margaret Kaastra, 2 brothers, Koos and Jake Van Gurp, brothers-in-law Floor Saarloos, Jack Kaastra, sisters-in-law Theresa and Jane as well as many relatives in the Netherlands. Will also be missed by many nieces, nephews and relatives.

Ida was born June 3, 1931 in Zeeland, Netherlands and immigrated in 1948 to Canada with her parents, Casper and Ida Van Gurp and family. It was in the Aylmer area that she met and married George in 1954. She loved the farming life, all plants and gardens. A true jack-of-all trades, she showed many gifts. "As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD" Joshua 24:15b.  With her abiding faith in God and her strong work ethic, Ida touched many lives and will be greatly missed. Finally at rest in her Heavenly home.

Visitation will be held at the Bethel United Reformed Church, Aylmer on Sunday from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Private family interment, Aylmer Cemetery. The funeral service will be held on Monday, April 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at the Bethel United Reformed Church, Aylmer. Donations to Word and Deed would be appreciated.
