Dear family,
Only by coincidence we learnt of the passing of Steve Bloetjes. Steve is cousin to our family - the sons and daughters of late Jo Jak-Bloetjes, sister to Steve's father Case (Cor) Bloetjes.
After the emigration of Cor, we were raised with photographs and letters of the family (John, Mike, Mary Ellen, Steve, Ed, and Ron). In 1971 Case (Cor) and Corrie visited Holland. We (Marcel and Els) visited our uncle and cousins in London Ontario in 1993. We like to share the memory of the warmth and hospitality we experienced.
We herewith like to convey our condolences to Christine, children and family and wish them all the family love and the strength to carry this loss. With respect: Herman (Monique), Marcel (Els), Marie-Ellen (Frans), Jose (Theo†), Lia (Theo).

I was so saddened to hear of Stephen's passing. He rented 50 acres from me and he was very kind. I enjoyed my phone conversations with him as we discussed our family farms and their history. He truly loved what he did and I will miss him.

After not having seen Steve for quite a while due to COVID, we were finally able to have a chat when he came down to bale our hay. It was so good to see him! He jumped out of the tractor with that warm smile! I said to him, "Farmer Steve, it's been too long! Come here and give me a hug!" Steve was on one side of the fence and I on the other. We reached over the fence to hug and I electrocuted the both of us when I accidentally touched the newly installed electric fence! It was so funny! We laughed and laughed! It was such a silly encounter but I am so happy to have that memory of Steve.
Chris and family, I lost my Dad in the same devastating way. Here one minute and literally gone the next. The sense of loss and grief is immeasurable. I know where you are and wish I could take away the hurt.
May you find comfort in eachother and the lifetime of memories you created. Steve was one of the good ones and you were lucky to have been loved by him.
Please know that you are in my thoughts.
Hugs......
Debbie Austin

Aunt Chris, Jess, Nicole, Shelley, Detmer, Joe, and all the little guys Jacqui and I are so very sorry and saddened by the loss of Uncle Steve (aka farmer). As was shown today he brightened so many lives and will be missed by many. There are so many stories that can be shared but ones that stand out for me are the times at family gatherings that many of us would find Uncle Steve sleeping on the couch at 7pm or no matter how many times we had seen the dairy barn would always enjoy him taking us on another tour and all the farm chats. We will miss you very much Uncle Steve have a restful nap. Jason and Jacqui Davis

Our sincere condolences to you Chris & the girls on the passing of your dear husband, father & grandfather. Chris, Steve was a devoted husband, a rock in your family & a great grandfather to your grandchildren. He is surely going to be missed. He left many beautiful memories Chris that you both made together, now is your time to put those into your heart so Steve will always be close to you. We always enjoyed playing cards with Steve, even though he liked to cheat sometimes. He was a very hard worker, getting up to milk those cows at 4am in the morning. But he always had time for his friends. R. I. P. My friend Arnold & Rita Verhallen

To the Bloetjes family.... we are so very sorry for your tremendous loss of Steve. We very much admired his love of family, his outgoing way, his big friendly smile and his general zest for life. Although, we have only known him for a couple of years, we quickly became good friends. His legacy will live on especially in our life in his grandson Nolan that we share together. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Bloetjes family through these difficult days and beyond.

We send our deepest condolences to Chris, their beautiful daughters Jessica, Nicole, and Shelley, husbands and children and all the family.
The heartache we feel with the passing of Steve is immeasurable. The Bloetjes families embraced us as newcomers to Dorchester in 1985 and for almost 20 years, we felt as if we had become part of their extended family. We have so many wonderful memories of the summer pot luck get togethers, corn roasts, card parties. Steve was always there to help clear our laneways during the winter snowstorms.
Steve, you were a true friend always willing to help. The community has lost an amazing man but his memory will remain forever in the hearts of many.

My deepest condolences to the Bloetjes family on the passing of Steve. I was lucky enough to have known him since my childhood, and I was always grateful for his presence in our family gatherings alongside his daughters Jessica, Nicole, and Shelley. He was a hardworking man, not only on our family farm but in so many others in the community. Steve's commitment to the town and its people will never be forgotten.
Steve was more than a friend of my parents; he was a source of laughter, life lessons, and an ever-present companion at the kitchen table. He was never short on stories, and I will always remember the rums we shared together.
Steve, you will be missed by so many, but your "Green John Deere" spirit will live on in each and every field.

I was so saddened to hear of Steve’s passing. Steve and my uncle, Bob Finch, were good friends and as a child I spent as much time as I could on my grandparents farm and because of that I saw him often. I was only a few years younger than the “boys”, but at that time it probably felt like decades to them, but Steve was always nice to me and never got mad that I was continually tagging along, and I’m sure, making a complete nuisance of myself. Even now, running into him from time to time in and around Dorchester, it was always a pleasure to chat and catch up. My deepest sympathies…he will be missed.

I vividly remember 27 years ago, helping Uncle Steve move some wagons back to the farm. While pulling 3 wagons with a pickup truck, I got stuck on the steep hill of the driveway. When I didn't show up at the barn, he came looking for me. Only to see me walking towards him with no truck in sight. Thinking I was in trouble(only 14 at the time) I told him what had happened. With a big smile and his chuckling laughter (we all knew), he said "well hell, did you try four wheel drive". Aunt Chris, Jessica/Detmer, Nicole and Shelley/Joe ; I can't even imagine the pain and loss that you are all feeling at this time, but can only hope that the everlasting memories can aid you like his love would. Daniel, Lucas, Nathan and Nolan ; your grampa loved you more than you will ever know and because of his love, he will be missed more than he will ever know. May his smile, his laughter, his love or his four wheel drive advice stay with you forever. It will for me. Love you Uncle Steve, may your cup never run dry and your heavenly tractor always be a John Deere. Love Jeremy.

Your deep hearty laugh, your big smile and the way you always made everyone feel heard when they spoke because you were always listening so intently. You will forever be known as my Uncle who fell asleep at Gramma & Grampa's with my baby doll and her blanket tucked up with you and you never even moved.
