My condolences to Don’s family. I had a life changing time in high school when I was second tenor to Don’s first in the Bill Sherry Big Band. We spent countless hours together playing and chatting about everything music and everything saxophone. Don was a lifelong student of music and inspired me to be the same. I will cherish our time together deeply. Even when I moved away from straight ahead jazz Don was curious about what I was doing. He always had a sparkle in his eye when talking and playing music. I will miss him dearly.

Dear Mrs. Durkee, Pete and Mary Ellen
My sincere sympathies with the loss of Mr. Durkee. I have fond memories of him as a neighbour girl. He was always so kind and welcoming. He would ask, "how I was?" making me feel not invisible. Once when we were walking, he moved to the outside of the sidewalk. I asked why? He explained that a gentleman always walks on the outside to protect the woman. I have always carried that with me and have taught it to my own boys. Mr, Durkee truly was a gentleman.
I am sorry I am unable to attend the service. I will be thinking of all of you and sending prayers your way.
So grateful for your whole family

So many memories of Don and you both. You have been part of my world since I met you through the antiques from my parents, I as a younger delivery person and later as s staff at the museum who fondly recalls 8:00 am take out coffee fromClarke’s and later from Effie and Louie’ s restaurant to share with Don over a museum project or BIA area event. Don was always kind and wise in advice he shared over each.
Sitting there talking in the chairs on each side of the table in front of the window he was so fond of I can’t help but think it was just yesterday.
Listening to Don and his musical friends entertain at your Durkeenevents or dancing to the band music at different functions and later concerts at the Old Town Hall and both the serious and fun things we did over the years added to the joyful and fulfilling memories that started with your father in law Stan and a grade nine student buying material on the third floor for a drindle skirt we had to make in the sewing class for Home Ec. What wonderful changes you both introduced into your business. Kim and Kevin have done you proud in what they have introduced under the Durkees name. Don and you have established and accomplished so much
that brings honour to your family and a legacy of memories I will carry with me of both of you with lasting fondness.
To your children I hope they too realize the many contributions made to this town on behalf the Durkees family. It has been my honour to have known such a good listener in Don and fellow antique collector.
As Bob Hope the comedian from a shared moments in each our lives would say at the end of his shows, “Thanks for the memories.” Don

Dear Judy, Pete, Mary Ellen and families,
Together with Bill, Jonathan and their families, my Don and I wish to extend our deepest sympathies on the loss of your husband and father. Don was a lovely man who always had time to spare for his neighbors. I enjoyed many chats with him in years gone by. Our shared love of music and pride in our children were very often the topics of our conversations. Bill so enjoyed the garage band experiences of his youth at your very welcoming home, Aylmer has lost a kind and memorable fixture, one of her best. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Don and Judy were always so welcoming when you went into Durkees. They were missed when they left Durkees, it just never felt the same. I often walked past their house and could hear Don practicing his music. I actually had the joy of listening to him play at a friend’s house. RIP Don and my deepest sympathy to Judy and his family and friends.
