I met Al when I started working at Masco Canada. Over the years I had many a good laugh with Al who always exhibited a great sense of humor. We shared a common interest in Cycling and it was Al who helped me (as usual), figure out the wiring on a difficult Tour de France air horn I had imported from Italy. Al was always helpful when it came to electrical problems and I always enjoyed chatting to him about them. Dude was taken way too soon. Rest in peace mate.

HAPPY......that's the word that I see in every tribute that I've read about Al. He was a perpetual smile every Monday night in our Co Ed Volleyball league. Even when others thought that something would frustrate Al, they were mistaken and we all soon learned that that man was a competitor, but never took anything too seriously. He was PLAYing a game in the game of life and he had fun. His infectious happiness is already leaving a void on Monday nights. On behalf of all the players, referees and fans of the Monday night Co Ed league, we extend our condolences to Al's family and friends and to the many lives that Al has infected with his zest for life. You are the "spike of life". Dave Uher

Big Al, thanks for being an older brother to me, Miranda and Justin. Growing up, I learned so much from you and you always had my back. As I think you knew, my parents loved you like a son. I will always remember you with a smile on your face, the sound of your laugh, and your witty little comebacks and sayings (“yes guy” and “what?” are just a couple that come to mind). Thanks for pushing me to be my best at everything we did, whether it was tennis, badminton, ping pong, running, or cycling. That summer in 1999 sticks out in my mind as special, where we would run outside of town through the countryside in the evenings, talking about nothing in particular, pushing each other to go further and faster. You were a fierce competitor, and it didn’t matter at what. I remember countless hours while working at the Dairy Hut with you competing at “garbage bag basketball” in between customers – it was nothing more than tossing a roll of twine into an empty garbage bin, but it made the time fly and we had an absolute blast playing against each other. While you were a fierce competitor, you were also a true gentleman and full of class, and I’m not surprised you eventually gravitated to golf, the ultimate gentleman’s sport. In such a short time, you touched the lives and hearts of an inordinately large number of people. Peace be the journey brother.

My condolences to Allen's family, I worked with Allen when he came to Delta Faucet in the London plant in Brazing Dept. He was a fun caring and always happy and smiling. Then the plant moved to St Thomas where Allen took a coarse to become an electrician. I still worked there in brazing till I retired 9yrs ago. Allen would come and see me in brazing when I was there and talk about his golfing that he so enjoyed. I was glad to have known him, RIP Allen, gone too soon. Lynne Chadwick

Nancy, Stephanie, Tim and Family. So very sorry for your loss. I have so many fun and wonderful memories from when we were kids. When we were in school, we ended up being in the same classroom a few times. I remember him getting some of the boys to stop tormenting me and a couple of other girls at school. In the summertime, I used to see him at the public pool and again he had to rescue some of us when the boys were taking our beach towels and throwing them in the creek. A few times I rode my bike with him and Stephanie around our neighbourhood. Even when Allen was a kid, he loved doing stuff outdoors. It didn't matter what the season was, he was outside. You could always see him around town either at the pool, arena, in one of the parks or at Cy's. He could always make you smile and laugh. The last time I saw him, was at the grocery store and we ended up catching up for over a half hour before we realized we had been talking for so long. He was fun, goofy and had the biggest heart. He always reminded me of my Grandpa Tim Dakins. Allen would give you the shirt off of his back. Allen is one of my cousins on Mom's side of the family. Gone way too soon. Gone way too young. He will be greatly missed. Our deepest condolences. RIP Allen.

Memories of Allen...
We met when we were both about the same size and both sang soprano in the church choir (he had a beautiful singing voice back then). I always looked forward to seeing him, even though it often involved a certain amount of torment from him (and his partner in crime Andrew). Everything was a competition on some level...from our "hockey scraps" to water fights with the garden hose (nobody else could accidently give me a bloody nose and make me immediately laugh about it), who has better abs, who had a better tan, who can bike or run faster, who can hit a baseball over the fence the most times, the list goes on and on (it was really just a list of things that he was better at than me, by a long shot). I miss getting some of his hand-me-downs when he would go and buy nicer clothing (because his fashion sense was a lot slicker than mine!). I miss that ugly old beige boat of a car he had for years, and that Cadillac that we would go out and drive way too fast. That mop of hair. Him trying to convince me that Labatts Blue was good beer.....
But what I'm really going to miss is that sensitive soul that was like pure gold in my books. The level of care he showed to me was pure gold. He was my biggest fan. That smile will always be in my mind, and that laugh will always echo in my ears.
Until we meet again, my dear friend....(at which point I am going to kick your butt for leaving us all too soon...)
Sending all my love to you, Stephanie and Nancy.

I worked at the same place as Al for over 13 years. Although we did not work in same depts. Or "run in the same circles", he was very helpful and friendly to me when i ran into him a few times outside of work...including running into each other at Covent Garden Market with our prospective girlfriends and he also took the time to help me with electrical issues when i purchased my first house 13 years ago. Sad to hear of his passing. Condolences to his family and all his friends.

We are extremely sorry for the loss of Allen. We enjoyed having him over previous to Covid for poker games and are at a loss that he won’t be at the next game. He was so easy going and we had great pleasure in knowing him. Our hearts go out to his family and anyone that knew him as he will have left an empty spot in anyone’s life that had met him cause he was just one of those guys. The one that always made you smile when he was around because he was always smiling so how could you not. He will be truly missed and our next poker game we will raise a glass and dedicate that game to him. RIP Al. Todd & Lisa (Shackleton) Firby

We met Al through our son Chad. Chad and Al shared a love for golf and spent many hours together on the golf course. Al had a beautiful smile and engaging personality. He was a genuinely nice person. We are happy that Al came into our lives and although we know how difficult these days are know that he had a positive impact on so some many lives. The memories that family and friends will cherish will carry his legacy forward and he will not be forgotten. Our thoughts are with all his family and friends at this time.

Al has been a part of our personal family as well as Chris’ work family for over 20 years and we are heart broken to imagine things without him. There was always some sort of a healthy competition when Al was around! Always one last game that turned into the next three hours just because neither him or Chris wanted to lose! There were endless rounds of darts, pool, golf, poker, ping pong and even one heck of an anual boys American Thanksgiving bash. Always a fun time when he was around! Even though things will never be the same and he is gone far too soon we are so lucky to have had him in our lives. Rest In Peace our friend we will miss you so much.

Nancy and Stephanie, I’m holding you close in my thoughts as you grieve the loss of Allen. I was devastated to get the news today and spent the afternoon with tears running down my face thinking about Allen and all the fun times we spent together as children. Those carefree childhood and early teen years were filled with so many amazing adventures. Not having seen Allen in over twenty years, I was in recent months thinking of him and wanted to connect again to catch up and share some of our favorite memoires. Allen was a genuine friend and I’ll think fondly of him for the rest of my life.

We are all saddened and shocked to hear of Al’s passing. He was a fun spirited & kind man who was always willing to help someone out. He was a blast at any event and happy and comfortable in conversation or cutting a rug on the dance floor.
His prsistent -or stubborn - nature was a common topic we would joke about. His love of country music and sports were obvious and thankfully he was a gifted athlete to make up for his singing abilities. Such a sweet soul.
He will be greatly missed by so many as he touched many lives. Cheers big guy. You left too soon. Melanie & Tristan

So many amazing times spent by your side buddy how do I pick just one memory to share. You were more than just this tall, tanned amazing golfer who i secretly idolized for all these years! You were the life of the party and always game for whatever fun or “friendly competition” came your way. We shared a passion towards that stupid game they call golf that took us on so many fun adventures to places like Michigan and Myrtle Beach. I am so grateful for all the amazing times we shared over the years and all the laughs we had together. Gone far too soon but the festers always knew Uncle Rick had a soft spot for you and would make you his #1 pick overall. Missing my buddy already but may you Rest In Peace knowing Matthew Stafford is finally a Super Bowl Champion.
