I was so sorry to hear of Shirley’s passing. I was honoured to care for her while she remained in her home. She enjoyed our visits and shared many stories and memories with me. My favourite was the day she mentioned Henry her great grandson and I shared that my granddaughter Lily went to daycare with him. They are great friends and his family spends time with Lily and her mom, Jenna. She was truly touched and we made a connection knowing we taught our children to share theirselves with others. Shirley was generous with her commitments to people and our community. She will be remembered. Christine Giesbrecht

We were so sad to hear of Shirley's passing. Our condolences to the family. Shirley was a wonderful friend - we have great memories of visiting her, sharing a cup of tea, and having lovely conversations. We also enjoyed visits to Pinecroft, or out on a shopping trip with her. Family and friends were so important to her - and she was always concerned about how we were doing. She was one-of-a-kind and we will really miss her. Sue and Kevin Morrell.

We extend our deepest condolences to each of Shirley's family in her passing. We will always cherish her gifts of welcome and kindness as we got to know each other after our move to Aylmer. She was very kind and supportive to Linda in the passing of her own parents in 2017. Shirley has been an inspiring person and her visits have been a great joy. We send you our sympathies, God bless you, and may you feel peace and comfort through faith and the many human touches of God that will always surround you.

My condolences to all of Shirley’s family. I have many fond memories of working with Shirley at Sunday School. Many, many children started Sunday School in her class and loved being there because of her! Her class became so full that she asked me to take the younger children. Thus began memorable years of teaching and joint Christmas Concert presentations! She always had a smile and a chuckle! I loved her!

Dear Cheryl and Robinson family,
Sending my heartfelt condolences to you and your family from the west coast. It was lovely to have visited with both you and Shirley this past summer ... when both of our moms were residents at the Seasons Retirement Home in St. Thomas. Shirley will always be remembered as a dear friend to the Walker family.
I am posting this poem in honour of your Mom ... it was read at my Dad's funeral service and Shirley had requested a copy of it, because it had touched her heart.
Sending love and prayers.
A Cross in My Pocket
© Mrs. Verna Mae Thomas
I carry a cross in my pocket
A simple reminder to me
Of the fact that I am a Christian
No matter where I may be.
This little cross is not magic,
Nor is it a good luck charm
It isn't meant to protect me
From every physical harm.
It's not for identification
For all the world to see
It's simply an understanding
Between my Savior and me.
When I put my hand in my pocket
To bring out a coin or a key
The cross is there to remind me
Of the price He paid for me.
It reminds me, too, to be thankful
For my blessings day by day
And to strive to serve Him better
In all that I do and say.
It's also a daily reminder
Of the peace and comfort I share
With all who know my Master
And give themselves to His care.
So, I carry a cross in my pocket
Reminding no one but me
That Jesus Christ is the Lord of my life
If only I'll let Him be.
