I pondered over what to write on here because there just are no words that could explain the loss this world just endured. I have always felt blessed to have supported you through these last few years. I got to watch you make the most amazing changes in your life and become this outstanding young women who was on her way to making changes in this world. Mya, I was so excited for your future and had my Pom-poms ready to keep cheering you on! I am so glad I jumped at every chance I got to tell you how proud I am of you and how amazing you are. I will hold every memory I shared with you close to my heart and will forever be thankful to you for showing me exactly what it looks like when a youth uses their lived experience to fight for change. The light you always were in the room will forever shine from above now. I will never forget you.
Prayers of healing for you Margaret, Henry, and family. May you always know how much you meant to Mya and the unconditional love she held for you.

Andrea Spasojevic posted a condolence
Friday, October 29, 2021
Words cannot describe the sadness I am feeling after hearing the news from Germany. I wish I was there to support the ones affected by this tragedy.
I, Andrea Spasojevic, had the honour to work with Mya at Anago in hopes of supporting her emotionally, mentally and physically. It is an honour to have gotten the opportunity to get to know someone as generous and intelligent as Mya Klassen.
Mya has always succeeded at lighting up the room as she entered with her bright beautiful smile and her unique and fun personality. She was always full of energy and always volunteered to help cook, bake, or do anything that would help her build self-confidence and independence which was one of her goals.
Mya had the tendency to always put other people first and herself last. She always ensured the people around her were happy and taken care of before checking on herself.
Mya had a big heart, loved and cared hard.
She was always present at my wellness wednesdays. I remember the time when she wrote down a quote I shared with the youth: “If you spend all your time on small things, you will run out of room for the things that actually matter.” She took this into consideration and actually spent time on things in her life that mattered. She took her care in the program very seriously and always wanted to successfully transition into the real world and become independent.
In one of my facilitation’s, Mya was asked what she would do if she received $86,400: she said, “I would spend it on facilities and improve group homes such as Craigwood and other ones that need help to better support the ones in need”.
Mya was a warriors. She proved it to herself, and everyone who’s ever doubted her. Mya never gave up.
Mya will be remembered for many of her unique characteristics: her unique and energetic personality, her smile, intelligence, passion to support others while she was overcoming her own challenges.
I not only strived to inspire Mya, Mya has also inspired me in many different ways. The last time I saw her was when I picked her up from Aylmer for a KFC one-to-one. It was a good time eating while feeding the geese and running from bees. We also experienced chasing a bat out of a house, proving to me that she had more courage facing that bat while the staff (me) was hiding behind her back. She then ran down the stairs crying of laughter, and leaving me all alone with the crazy bat.
Mya, I wish I could tell you one more time, how proud I am of you. You’ve taught me many things in life.
To the family - my deepest condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
May we celebrate Mya’s successes and accomplishments. May we celebrate her determination, courage and strength.
Mya; Rest In Peace Angel! May we meet again!
~ Andy

It’s hard to come to terms with this tragedy and it’s hard to believe she’s gone, but I know right now she is in a place where she will feel no more pain. Mya and i where really close friends, we called each other “the tacos” (junior taco and senior taco). We laughed, we cried, we did everything together. I would describe Mya as the light in the room, she always knew how to cheer me up. And as I sit here thinking about all the happy, sad, and even scary moments we had together it brings me joy to hear her voice speaking back to me saying “you got this taco”! Mya and I lived together for about 2 years, we worked together at Muskoka Woods Summer Camp, and best of all we worked with subcommittee meetings through MINDS. Her initiation and commitment really helped me become the person I am today and I thank her for that.
Mya, I will never forgetting you! You will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart! And although the road maybe rocky, I promise you I will keep fighting, because I know that’s what you would have wanted.

I was gifted with working with Mya during my dream job.. Words will never be able to describe the positive impact not only Mya did for herself however what she had on others. While having the joys to be a part of her growth, she was able to teach me a lot about myself.
She had such a big heart and grew to be such a beautiful individual.
Mya, I am so proud of you and the woman you became. You never gave up on the things you wanted and you strived for perfection. You pushed yourself to your limits if not more. You will always be cherished in my heart and I will carry out memories forever.
My condolences to Myas friends and family,
With love, Tiffany Lynn

I worked with Mya at Anago and she was always such an amazing person to be around! Her and I shared many laughs… especially when I would help her with her school work, but it would be her helping me.
She was so brilliant, beautiful, witty and helpful.
I’ve often thought of her and am so glad to hear she was doing well and living her dream of going to Western.
Sending my deepest condolences to Mya’s family . She will be forever missed.

I worked with Mya at MINDS since she joined back in 2019. Mya was an incredible person. She was brave, brilliant and kind. I don't think I ever get an email from her without an exclamation point in it. She had so much joy and love for everyone she knew and everything she did. The world is a darker place without her in it.
All my love to everyone who loved her. There are no words for this tragedy, but she will be remembered for the work she did to help others and the smile that was always on her face.
