Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Uncle Maurice will be missed by all, but we fondly look back at his life and accomplishments.
I remember from a very young age visiting Uncle Maurice on Sundays with our family. First in the old white house and then into the apartment in town and then to the house at the farm. Summertime visits which sometimes included a visit to the beach at Port Burwell or Port Bruce - riding in the fast red convertible car - gliding along with all of us laughing as we were blasted by the wind! The Sunday visits over time became less frequent, but they were always the best visits. Dad (Remi) and Uncle Maurice were close and they always leaned on each other for support. The first years in Canada they needed that support and trust to move ahead into the brave new world.
Uncle Maurice lived a life of "I can do that" and "Prove me wrong".
Both Uncle Maurice and Dad planted apple trees on M-9 rootstock in a trellis style before 1970. Thirty to forty years later the apple trellis style is the way to plant trees in Canada - it is the "new thing". Along with the trellis, Maurice built picking aids that made harvest and pruning easier for the workers. Now farmers buy those aids from manufacturing business as a normal thing to do. Uncle Maurice had the vision long before the main stream were even dreaming of the equipment.
Uncle Maurice also went into construction and built the many things including the first high rise apartment building in Tillsonburg near the Community Complex. With construction he had some neat tools like a transit which we all learned to use as we grew up.
The visits continued throughout the years and only became better with the addition of Cobi to the family. At the wedding reception of Cobi and Maurice I remember overindulging on coke, peanuts and chips as that was treats we didn't get to have on a regular basis! The visits and Christmas dinners between the VandenBorre familys' continued for a lifetime.
Uncle Maurice, Cobi and Ingrid also supported our family everytime someone got sick or had a hospital stay. Normally on the second day someone was in the hospital, they were there to offer support and our family had many visits to the hospital with burns, broken bones, big bruises and strains.
There are so many things to remember - but he was a leader in his own way. Uncle Maurice and Aunt Cobi have left the next generations in charge now - Ingrid, Lino, Alexandra and Kendra - the short term pain will lead to a lifetime of memories.
Our thoughts and Prayers
