I knew Dan long before he was a Teacher , at least officially. Dan was initially a friend of my brothers in high-school, and eventually a family friend. I was shocked and saddened to hear the news of his passing. I hadn't seen him in a while , but every once in a while he would pop in my head and I would wonder where he was and how he was. In reading the stories Dan became a Teacher and a great one for young children, I think that is amazing. Although our lives went down different paths I was very hurt by the news of his passing and when I looked within at why, it's because in a lot of ways Dino was my Teacher too. The fond memories I have of have of him were of joy. He was always trying to get me to relax, enjoy life, smile more, laugh more. I always felt like Dan was wise beyond his years and incredibly compassionate. He always had a way of making you feel special, and especially when you needed it. Dan was far from perfect, non of us are, we were all young men learning and growing together, trying to figure life out. I am so glad he was a part of my life, even for a short time. It hurts to say goodbye, but I think the way I can honour my old friend is to live my life the way he did. Work hard yes, but remember to laugh, remember to not take life so seriously, and be there to help with support, and a kind word, and a laugh. I think that is what he was trying to teach me all along. The world isn't the same without Dan here, but I know I am a better person for knowing him and I promise to pay it forward - Justin Breen

Our sincere sympathies to the Calendino Family and all who knew Dan. He was an extraordinary individual and will be forever missed. Dan was a dear friend of our son, Brad, and accordingly he was like another son to us. We will always remember his smile, the sound of his laughter and the size of his heart as he was a very generous person and always available for his friends. He touched the lives of many and we are all blessed for having the opportunity to have know him.

Larry, Leigh, Sara and Rob....I knew your son through my son. They lived together, experienced U of Guelph together, they shared so much with their very close knit group.
My memories of Dino are of a very loving, wonderful man.
One weekend I was throwing a party to celebrate a special occasion in my husband’s work life. Garth (Mark) and Dino were part of that celebration as they had come to spend the weekend with our son Mark.
Garth and Dino went to our corner grocery and came back with a bouquet of flowers for me, they wanted to say thank you for having them.
I will always remember Dino as a loving, fun, joy filled man. He was special.

In our world today those who have become true lights in our children’s lives, we have become extremely grateful for & my heart completely broke when I learned of the unexpected passing of one of those bright shining lights. An amazing, kind, warm, loving man. One who impacted our family greatly since Emmett entered the school community, his kindergarten ECE of 2 years, Mr. Calendino.
Mr. Calendino adored his students, making each of them feel special in their own ways. Encouraging them to grow in who they are, and feeding their little minds with positivity and new things all the time. He took the time to get to know each student, and established a lasting relationship with them. Emmett was lucky enough to have him for JK and SK, and throughout this year (now in Gr. 1) would visit with him at recess, and sent him a letter as a class project. It’s not uncommon to hear him say, he wishes he was back in last years classroom with Mr. Calendino and Ms. Von. He helped Emmett build whatever invention he had in his little mind, he played with the kids at recess, he made them silly hats for their birthdays and he & his pet bunny Charles always knew how to put a smile on their faces. I remember meeting him at the Kindergarten open house, and without any indication of needing it, he made me feel a whole lot better about sending my wee baby to school.
Mr. Calendino, THANK YOU. Thank You for all you did for so many small hearts (and their families), for genuinely caring for our children, for making school feel safe, and teaching our littles so many lessons that they will carry with them throughout the years. I personally have never looked at an cardboard box the same since meeting you; I always consider what could be created or built with them. You Sir, left a lasting impact on Emmett and so many others. My heart is broken for your students; past, present, and also for the future little hearts who will miss out on your awesomeness ❤️
My sincere condolences to his family, friends and sweet, Charles❤️

Some of my most cherished memories growing up are of Danny (he'll always be 'Danny' to me). We would get together to play at my Nonna's and at Comare Lena's when we were wee things, and as we got older we'd just hang out (too cool for school). We lost touch over the years but he always was, and always will be, someone special to me. Sending my love and deepest condolences to Larry, Leigh, Rob(bie), Sarah and the whole family.

Our hearts and deepest condolences go out to all of Dan’s friends, family, co workers and students. He was our oldest sons JK & SK EA 7yrs ago. My son and Dan had a very special bond as I know Mr.C did with many of his students. Here is a photo of the Pirate Ship they made and we still have the large cardboard dinosaurs they made together. Even after moving out to the country 4yrs ago, each time we visited the Town Center mall we still had to see if Mr.C was working. Mr.C touched the hearts of many children and parents, his passion for teaching youngsters and his generosity will have an everlasting memory to all of those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
