Tom Randall posted a condolence

I worked in Noelville Detachment in the late 1960s when it was a four man detachment with a senior constable in charge. That role fell to Denis and he was great leader. I had no idea that he was a teacher in his pre-police days but I am not surprised. He taught we younger officers a lot. Given we did not have an NCO in charge or a secretary to do our reports Denis was a great example of what was expected from us. I bumped into Denis a few times over the years but the last time was at the casino in London. My wife and I had gone to London from Chatham for an appointment at the University Hospital and hit the casino for a couple of hours before heading home. I sat down beside Denis and he looked at me and I looked at him and we both started laughing. We spent a great half hour chatting about our experiences in Noelville. I was always sorry that he opted to transfer to the OPC as I thought he would have really done well with the OPP. So sorry I didn't see this obituary earlier but I was planning a fishing trip to the French River and tried to reach out to Denis and found this posting. Truly sorry for your loss.
Tom Randall, OPP Superintendent (Retired)

My condolences to the entire LaGrandeur family. I played fastball with Denis for a number of years and he was a fierce competitor whenever he took his place on the diamond. He also taught several family members at OPC during his career. He was a man of utmost respect and conviction. RIP Denis Bill Deane

My deepest sympathy to the family. I remember the night before I started university in London, mon oncle put us up for the night and spent it telling us funny police stories. I think it really helped my mom, Rachel, to spend time with her brother the night before sending her daughter away to school.
Love,
Simone

My deepest condolences to the Lagrandeur family. I had the privilege of working with Denis on my secondment from Ottawa Police. He was also a gentleman and I always enjoyed our conversations. Later when I retired and moved to Aylmer it was great to see him in town and at functions. Again my sympathies to the family and he will be in our prayers.

A true gentleman with a great sense of humour. I had the honour of being both a student of his and later a colleague at the OPC. His dedication to the policing profession was without question and the lives he touched personally and professionally will be his legacy.
To his family, my sincerest condolences.

Kim & I first met Denis (& the Lagrandeur clan) in 1975 when we moved into Aylmer. We spent many an afternoon in their backyard with Denis teaching me how to pitch and then in the winter months at the hockey arenas as he & Kim coached hockey together. We have many happy memories of how the whole family welcomed Kim & I to Aylmer. Our deepest condolences to Guy, Gus, Marc, Paul & Lynn (& all the spouses and grandkids/great grandkids). He will be missed.

Ian and I saw your dad on our walks on occasion. He was always cordial and had a few words of conversation when we crossed paths. I remember one time I asked him the difference between France French and Quebec French. He gave me an example that summed everything up and left me with a concise and concrete explanation....I'll never forget how he cleared that up for me! Lynne, much love and strength for you and your family; I know how hard it is for a daughter to lose her daddy, and it doesn't matter what age you are. Thinking of you! After my mom died, a student made me a little drawing with this caption: Lord, help me to remember that nothing is going to happen to me today that you and I together can't handle. Amen!!

I had the distinct honour of being a student of Denis at OPC, an Instructor under him and only a few years ago the opportunity to dedicate a classroom at OPC to him. Denis was a gentleman in every position he filled. Thank you Sir! Mike Gobeil

The last time I saw Denis, he was not feeling to good and being stubborn he did not want family visiting. Well he forgot that a lot of Lagrandeur are also stubborn, so I showed up unannouced and I'm so glad I did. He had this great smile and we talked for almost 2hrs. I love you brother

Denis always stopped to talk with us when walking the dog. He would always ask about ourselves, our children and their families, and if we had been able to travel and see them or if they were coming home for a visit He remembers those family details. We have missed that.
