Obituary of Margaret McCallum

Margaret Leona McCallum, of Aylmer, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 27, 2020 at Extendicare London, in her 88th year. Born on April 1, 1933 on the Jamestown Road in Malahide Township, she was the only child of Leon Comiskey Simpson and Thelma May Whitcroft. She attended Copenhagen Public School and Aylmer High School and worked on tobacco farms in the Copenhagen area for a number of years. She was married on October 23, 1954 to James Melvin McCallum, who predeceased her in 2011. In 1970 they sold the farm at Copenhagen and moved to Monkton, Ontario where they farmed and operated a Massey-Ferguson dealership. In 2004 they returned “home” to Aylmer, where they enjoyed renewing old acquaintances. She also made many new friends while attending meals sponsored by the V.O.N. Surviving are a daughter Kathy Rock of Atwood and a son Jim of London; four grandchildren Michelle Vanlochem (Marcel); Amanda Rock (Julien Oribes), Naomi Rock and April MacLachlan (Cathy) and four great-grandchildren Eliana, Tobias, Myla and Zemirah. Also surviving are a sister-in-law Norma McCallum and two cousins Percy Whitcroft and Shirley Sanderson. She was predeceased by her son-in-law Mark Rock and her brothers and sisters-in-law Celia, Marjorie, Delia, Delbert (Hi), Bert and Tom. Resting at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home where a private service will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at 1pm, conducted by Rev. Janet Anstead, with interment in Aylmer Cemetery. Due to COVID-19, a memorial service will be announced at a later date. Donations to the Mapleton Church of Christ or First Baptist Church, Listowel or the V.O.N would be appreciated by the family.
