Obituary of Kay Roberts

On March 3, 2020 our time to be with Kathleen Roberts came to an end. Tomorrow will have to start without her. She was lucky enough to live most of her 100 years in good health married to her husband, Fred (1985) for 40 years and parenting two stepchildren John (2018) (Betty) and Marjorie (Rob) as well as twin daughters, Barb(Robert) and Betty(Roy). She took great pride in her 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. When Mom came to Aylmer in 1943, people quickly knew exactly who she was! They may not have known her name, but they depended on her to hitch up her horse, Queenie and deliver their milk door to door. She was a pioneer of the Feminist Movement by being Aylmer’s first female Milkman! She never asked for much but jumped in to help whenever she was called upon convening the kitchen at St. Paul’s United Church for 30 years, singing in the choir, bowling and knitting over 900 baby hats for newborns at STEGH. In June 2015, Kay took up residence at Chartwell Long Term Care Home. No one thought she would make it through her first night but she proved them wrong and came to love it there. We would like to thank the staff for treating her like family and brightening up her life every day. She used to say that growing old wasn’t any fun but she kept the staff on their toes with unexpected and sometimes uncensored stories, jokes and comebacks. She was up for almost anything, decorating her room for every season and regularly dressing in costume for their themed events. We had never seen THAT side of her. She always kept the door to her room in Chartwell wide open and marvelled at who faithfully came to visit. We would like to thank those dedicated and thoughtful friends including her “Domino Girls.” We can only hope that Mom is busy reuniting with loved ones gone before-her parents, three brothers, two sisters, her husband, a stepson, a son-in-law, two grandsons and many friends. We predict she is watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune and hopefully she will find someone to play dominoes, euchre or Skip Bo with while enjoying some meat lovers pizza and poutine. If you want to say goodbye, meet us at H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9pm, where the funeral service will be held on Friday, March 6, 2020 at 11am. Donations to Chartwell Long Term Care Home or Aylmer Corner Cupboard would be appreciated. Share memories or condolences at kebbelfuneralhome.com
