Obituary of Audrey Churchill

It is with heavy hearts the family of Audrey Churchill announce her passing on January 10, 2019 at the Chelsey Park Long Term Care Home in London, Ontario at the age of 90. Mrs. Churchill was born in Romney Township, Ontario on February 4, 1928.

Beloved wife of the late Winston “Bruce” Churchill (1979). Loving mother of Linda (David) Schuyler of Nairn, Robert Churchill of St. Thomas and the late Donna Lauzon (2012). Cherished grandmother of Jeff (Lisa) Schuyler, Brian Schuyler, Lisa Churchill, Kate Lauzon (Amanda Nocon) and Samuel Lauzon-Springer and great grandmother to Nik Churchill, Nathan Hymus and Lydia Nocon. Missed by her sister Wilma Dibley and several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Christie and Gladys (Setterington) Pinch (1985), her sister Shirley Roach (2015) and grandsons Steven Schuyler (1971) and Justin Lauzon (1986).

Audrey was a hard worker all her life which began when she was a young teenager as she worked alongside her father in the tomato fields on the family farm in the Leamington area. In 1954 she and Bruce and their young family moved to the Springfield area where they had purchased a farm. Together they developed a successful mixed crop-livestock operation. As they settled into the community, they attended many local softball games and Belmont hockey games even though our father wasn’t playing nor did they have children involved with the teams. In those days, it was not uncommon to follow these teams even to away games just for the sheer entertainment. They would spend many summers at their trailer in St. Williams where they enjoyed boating and fishing especially when their grandchildren joined them. Many lifelong friendships were formed in the Leamington and Springfield areas.  Wherever they went, their circle of friends grew. It was at this time in their lives that they learned the joys and frustrations of playing golf. Bruce’s poor health forced them to sell their farm, boat and trailer and they moved to Aylmer where they became landlords of several properties.

Audrey retired from Harold Row & Sons Farm Equipment after 19 years as an office worker. She enjoyed playing golf and was a long-time member of the Belmont Golf Club. Although she didn’t start playing golf until her late 40’s, she became an accomplished golfer with 3 holes-in-one over her lifetime and she and Metta Hunking-Atchison placed second in the 1998 Ladies Golf Association National Team Championship. She won many awards while travelling with friends (Metta Hunking-Atchison, Betty Maat and Linda White) and competing in tournaments throughout the province. Audrey also enjoyed bowling in 2 leagues for many years. In her later years, she could be found playing cards every day and visiting with her friends.

Friends will be received by the family from 2-4 pm on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, 119 Talbot St. E., Aylmer, Ontario (519-773-8400). Funeral services to be held at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home at 1 pm on Monday, January 14, 2019 with visitation one hour prior to service. Interment to follow in Dorchester Union Cemetery.
