Ed's twinkly eyes and infectious smile show through in his picture. I have so many wonderful memories of our time together on council and committees, having Betty and Ed's children as students at North, and his hen house - showing my grandson chickens hatching!! Best of all though was when I visited and counted his chickens and laughed (they exceeded the city bylaw!!! ho ho)
My love to all the Thompsons.

I am a Barrie resident and shared friendships with both Ed and Betty. My condolences . He was a kind gentleman. We were both in politics but we did activities for the citizens. I just went by the old homestead on Cundles and wondered where Ed was but now I know. RIP.

Dear Jim, John, Margie Lou, Barbie and Bob,
Our condolences on the loss of your father, Ed.
It is so hard when our parents pass on. My parents, Marilyn (Moore) and Jack Walker, relatives of your moms, so enjoyed spending time with your parents Betty and Ed and Aunt Donna and Ed over the years. Early memories of our families visits to Canada bring warm, comforting thoughts of simpler times, sharing family stories and loving friendship.
May all your beautiful memories of your father comfort you and bring you peace,
With our sincere sympathy,
Judy and Tom Rogers

We also visited him in Aylmer at the farm where he showed us his chickens and met his friend Marion...He was also pleased anytime we were able to visit him....He was a wonderful individual. Dear Jim, Margie Lou, John, Barbie Lynn and Bob and families.
Your father was such a dear friend of my parents, Bob and Marion Washburn, a lifelong friendship that began as neighbours in Sudbury and with both of our fathers as loyal Bell men. It continued as neighbours again in Lorne Park. Ed, Mom and Dad spoke regularly until their final days, a friendship they both truly valued. Your father was a man, a gentleman, of great warmth, good humour and uncommon courtesy, probably remembered by all for that twinkle in his eye and his ever cheerful smile. My brothers and I carry such fond memories of both your parents and were so delighted to see Ed and our parents joyfully reminiscing at our father’s 90th birthday a few years ago. Ed made the drive, by himself, from Aylmer, just for that reunion. We are saddened for your loss and hope your family is wrapped in the warm embrace of endearing times spent with your wonderful parents.
We remember, fondly........

So very sorry to hear of Ed's passing. My condolences to all of his family. He went to high school with our Mom (Mary Bagnall Pearson) and they reconnected after his move back here. He and Mrs Kiddie were great community supporters at our Lioness Club meals and functions here in Springfield. It was always so great to chat with him, and I had the pleasure of speaking with him in September after the Optimist Ham Supper. He never failed to strike up a conversation wherever we met. I will miss his humour, kindness and stories. A true gentleman that will not be forgotten.

My condolence to all the family. You will probably will not know me but my sister Willy Harris and I would clean your dad's house every other week on Cundles Street in Barrie for many years. We would look forward to enjoying a cup of great coffee with him at our break. Your dad was certainly a special and memorable person. Then when your dad moved to Aylmer, Willy and myself and another sister Mary spent 3 or 4 days cleaning the old homestead. What a great adventure that was for us. My husband and I visited your father many times in the time he lived in Aylmer. Your father will certainly be missed.

So happy I had the opportunity to meet my dear friend Barb's dad. I sat around the table at the farmhouse with him and family, while he happily prepared morel mushrooms. I'm sure many happy memories reside at that table and I am grateful to be a part of them. I also met a few of his many friends at the retirement home and McDonalds. He was wonderful to spend time with and have a chat and I'm sure will be greatly missed by all.

I never met Ed, but I knew him through his daughter, my friend and colleague Margie Lou, whose devotion to her father has been, I am sure, a great comfort to him. I know that he inspired love and devotion from his children, that he lived an exemplary life; and I am acutely aware of the dignified, resolute and courageous struggle he waged against the formidable adversary of cancer. For a lesser man like me, there is inspiration to be found in his admirable qualities of character and his humble greatness; and the poignant reminder that it is never too late for any of us to do something beautiful with our lives.

We are very sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. We have come to know Ed through Mrs. Kiddie. We live across the street from her and it always brought us such joy to look across the street to see the two of them sitting on the porch enjoying their day. We appreciated Ed and enjoyed his sense of humour and his old-fashioned values. He and Mrs. Kiddie were a breath of fresh air. We will miss his big smile and warming hellos from his visits to Springfield. He was such a kind man and we enjoyed being able to know him these past few years.
