Obituary of Roger Vandierendonck
Vandierendonck, at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Thursday, July 7, 2011. Roger Albert Vandierendonck of St. Thomas and formerly of Aylmer in his 86th year. Beloved husband of the late Loreen (Dark) Vandierendonck(2010). Loved father of Richard Vandierendonck and wife Cathy of London, Gary Vandierendonck and wife Lucy of Ilderton and Marianne George and husband Rod of Port Stanley. Loving grandfather of David Vandierendonck, Marnie Vandierendonck and husband Paul Murphy, Peter Vandierendonck and wife Theresa, Maggie Hammond and husband Nick, Coleen Morris and husband Chris, Matt Fruin and Partner Adrielle, Anson George and great-grandfather of Avery, Anna, Amelia, Logan, Jacob, Isabelle, Maeve, Matthew, Kyle, Carson and Kayla. Brother to George Vandierendonck and wife Agusta and Daniel Vandierendonck and wife Clarice. Loved brother-in-law to Beverly Ann Dark Walker. Also survived by a number of nieces, nephews and cousins. Born in Ruddervorde Belgium on November 1, 1925 son of the late Henri and Gabriella (Roose) Vandierendonck. He came to Canada in 1926 and was a life long resident of Aylmer and area. Roger worked in farming and as a salesman. He served on the Separate School Board for 5 years in which he was Chairman for 2 years, the East Elgin High School Board for 6 years - Last Chairman 1968, the Elgin County Board of Education for 15 years - Chairman 1980, he also served 11 years on the Aylmer Town Council- 2 years as Counsellor, 3 years as Deputy Reeve, 3 years as Reeve and was Warden of Elgin County in 1993. He joined the Knights of Columbus in 1953 and is a life member. He served as Grand Knight for 4 terms, he was District Deputy for 2 years. He also joined the Fourth Degree Knights and served 1 term as Faithful Navigator. Roger served on the Catfish Creek Conservation Authority as Aylmer Representative, served on 2nd Aylmer Scout Group Committee. He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows R.C. Church, the Aylmer Kinsmen Club, the Family and Children Services for 6 years and was Past President, also Past Presdient of the Parent-Teachers Assoc. and a member of the Pleasant Vally Golf Course. Friends may call at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Sunday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Prayers Sunday at 4 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows R.C. Church on Monday, July 11, 2011 at 11:00 am. Interment, Queen of Peace Cemetery. Donations to the or Community Living or Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
