Obituary of John Dyck

John Dyck

On April 30, 1943, John Dyck was born in the Chihuahua Province in Mexico, the son of John and Anna (Wiebe) Dyck. He was raised in a Mennonite farming community, and was one of eleven children. In 1964 he married Margaret Harder. Their union was blessed with 5 children: Anne in 1965, Peter in 1966, John in 1967, Margaret in 1969, and Susie in 1970. In November of 1970, John immigrated with his family to Ontario, Canada, where he found work as a machine repairman, but eventually got licensed as a welder, a job from which he retired in 2007.

John attended the Church of God in Aylmer, where he experienced salvation and baptism. In 1983, he endured serious surgery for the removal of a brain tumor. His recovery allowed him almost 28 more years to enjoy the marriage of his children, and the birth of each of his grandchildren.

On Thursday, February 17th, John suffered a massive stroke. Thirteen days later, on March 2, 2011, the Lord chose to take him home. John is survived by his wife, Margaret; 5 children, Anne and husband Ralph of Aylmer, Peter and  husband Roger of Vancouver, BC, John and wife Karen of Chardon, Ohio, Margaret and husband Patrick of St. Thomas, Susan and husband Robert of Flushing, Michigan; 12 grandchildren, Joshua, Darren, Michael and Brianne Brix, Amelia and Caleb Dyck, Bailey and Adam Harmon, and Bobby, Mandy, Kristin, and Matthew Jaster; 4 brothers from Mexico: Wilhelm and Mary Dyck, Frank and Tina Dyck, Jake and Anna Dyck, Henry and Susie Dyck; 4 sisters from Mexico: Mary Peters, Margaret and John Schelenburg, Anna Thiessen, and Lisa and Frank Peters, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, by one brother at birth (the twin to Henry Dyck), and last year by his brother Isaac Dyck from Oklahoma and sister Tina Loewen from Mexico.
