Obituary of Jack McCallum
McCallum, at University Hospital, London on Saturday January 16, 2010. John Oliver Lloyd "Jack" McCallum of R.R. # 2, Springfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, in his 78th year. Beloved husband of Lowanna (Smith) McCallum for 59 years. Loving father of Larry McCallum and wife Mary and Paul McCallum and friend Sue. Cherished grandfather of David McCallum and wife Jamie, Michael McCallum and friend Julie-Ann, Teresa Burr and husband Keith, Andrea Posthumus and husband Devon, Jessica McCallum and Jason McCallum. Dear great grandfather of Kyle, Taylor, Allyson and Jack Oliver II. Brother of Helen and predeceased by a brother Robert McCallum and a sister Joyce Heaslip. Jack was born in South Dorchester Township on September 22, 1932, son of the late Lloyd and Lily (Barnes) McCallum. He lived his entire life in the village of Lyons. He was an employee of Elgin Co-op for 34 years until his retirement in 1985 when he went to Northstar Palettes for 12 years, at which point he started his own business of recycling palettes. Throughout his life Jack was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. Many people will remember his great passion for both playing and coaching baseball. More recently, he became well known for his extensive bottle collection. He shared this hobby with many of his contemporaries and out of this past time, many lasting friendships were formed. He was also and active member of Christ's Disciples Church in Mapleton. We will all miss his quick wit, great sense of humour and his zest for life. Friends may call at the H. A.
