The Lord in his infinite love took to himself his servant Jacob (Jack) Groot on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the age of 78. He died at his home in Aylmer. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife Margaret Groot (nee Tensen) to whom he was married for 56 years. Predeceased by his daughter Jacqueline (1962) and brother Klaas Groot (2009), he is survived by his brothers and sisters and their spouses Sita Groot, Peter and Christine Groot, Paul and Ans Groot, Margaret and Peter Lamme, Andrea and Peter Miedema, Tina and Ron Vance; his children Nell and Jeff Duggan, Marian Groot and Laura Ruth Jarrett, Grace and Jim Hertner, Norman Groot and Philip Groot; his grandchildren Shawn and Kathy Lee Morren, Jessica and Jeff Mehring, Alea Morren and Ashley Naimi, Micah Morren, Kyle Hertner, Quinn Hertner, Jordan Hertner, Laura Holmes and Jack Henry Groot; and his great grandchildren Waylon Morren, Marlowe Morren, Kaia Morren, Ayla Mehring, Matthew Mehring and Eaven Holmes Pelley. Born in Enkhuizen, North Holland, on November 25, 1930, Jack immigrated with his new bride Margaret to Cornwall, Ontario, in 1953. A year later, they moved to the Aylmer area. Jack worked at Clark Equipment in St. Thomas for 29 years. He built his first house with members of the Aylmer Builders Cooperative in 1971. This led to the formation of Mangro Homes, a construction company specializing in the construction of modest and affordable houses and apartments which provided homes for many families in the Aylmer area.
A faithful member of the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church, Jack served the community diligently through his volunteer work in creating and maintaining the church, Immanuel Christian School, London District Christian High School and Heritage Place.
Visitors will be received at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The Funeral service will be held at the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church (194 South Street, West, Aylmer) on Friday, May 8 at 11:00 a.m. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery.
