Dirk and I were very good friends back in the 1970's. I've thought of him many times over the years. We watched almost every Leaf game together back then and also played a lot of football. I once held the ball for him while he kicked a 50 yard field goal and we were both amazed. I just recently found out about his passing but had to write something about my good friend. I enjoyed many evening with him, Anne, and their very young children at the time. I don't know if anyone will read this or if his family even remembers me but I had to acknowledge my friend. I'm sorry that we lost touch Dirk but, Rest in Peace. You won't be forgotten.

To Anne, Kim and Grant and their families, and all my brothers and sisters: Dirk will always be remembered for his great sense of humour, his ability to order everyone around, and, of course, his great love for his wife Anne and his kids Kim and Grant and their families. Thanks so much Anne, for being such a wonderful caring person. We love you and will certainly miss Dirk's phone calls. We'll be thinking of you all as you say goodbye to my little brother.
