Obituary of John Poortinga

Poortinga, Johannes "John" of Aylmer and formerly of R.R.1, Belmont passed away at London Health Science Centre-University Hospital on Friday, March 17, 2017 in his 80th year. John went home to his Lord and Saviour in whom he humbly trusted. Beloved husband of Theresa (Hovius) Poortinga. Dear father of Darlene Poortinga, Ernest Poortinga(Larissa) and opa to their little girls WeiWei and Evie. Brother of Iep Poortinga(Nelly), Richard Poortinga(Tena). Brother-in-law of Ann Poortinga, Helen Hovius, John Hovius(Beth), Sadie Oldewening(Arnold), Berend Hovius(Patricia), Freda McCallum and Wayne Hoogsteen. Remembered by Ralph Bouwknegt(Marie) and Gary Bouwknegt. Also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Jan Poortinga(2015), father-in-law Enne Hovius(1957), mother-in-law Wilma Hovius(2000), step-father-in-law Klaas Bouwknegt(2007), brother-in-law Wilfred Hovius(1957), sister-in-law Aafke Hoogsteen(2014) and an infant sister Jansje(1940). Born in Ede, The Netherlands on December 30, 1937, son of the late Rinze and Dirkje (Van Voorst) Poortinga. Friends may call at the H. A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Monday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Aylmer Christian Reformed Church on Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at 1:00 pm. Interment, Aylmer Cemetery.
