Obituary of Grant Hart

Hart, Joseph Grant of Aylmer passed away at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Thursday December 8, 2016 in his 88th year. Beloved and devoted husband of Joan Favoretta, and father of two dearly loved sons, Perry Grant Hart, of Kanata, Ontario and Doran George Hart, of Cambridge, Ontario. He leaves a beloved daughter-in-law, Laurie, wife of Doran and six grandchildren, Jessica and twins, Brittany and Tyler, of Cambridge, Ontario and Connor and twins, Shelby and Rylan (RJ) of Kanata, Ontario. He was predeceased by his mother, Mildred Irene Hart (2002) and his father, Dr. Harry Jemison Hart (1945). He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Elizabeth Stone and brother-in-law, Dennis Stone of Calgary, Alberta. He also leaves his nephews Bryan and Philip Ronald and his wife Mona, of Calgary, Alberta. He also leaves his sister Olive Lundy of Toronto and his brother, Dr. Donald Edward (Ted) Hart and his wife Barbara, of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. He leaves two nephews, Cameron and Derek Hart, and also Christopher Lundy and his wife, Lorna of Pickering, Ontario, a niece, Susan Crawford and husband, Michael and their two children, Michael and Mikayla. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Lewis Lundy. He will be missed by his cousin Wray Bowen and wife, Carole, and their family; and cousin, Lynda Pressey and her family, his cousin Marianne and husband Don Millard, of London, Ontario. He was predeceased by his aunt and uncle Edith and Stanley Bowen of Aylmer, Ontario, his uncle George Summers and wife Doris, and his cousin Donald Summers, also predeceased by his aunt Mary Matthews and her husband Hugh Matthews. He attended high school in Aylmer and London, Ontario. He was a graduate in Honours Business Administration of the University of Western Ontario London, Ontario. He was employed by Firestone Tire Inc. for 27 years in various sales, advertising and marketing positions, culminating in being appointed as President of Dayton Tire Canada, Whitby, Ontario which was a wholly owned subsidiary of Firestone Tire Inc. He met his future wife Joan, when they were both working for this company. Within a year after their first date, Grant and Joan were married in 1957 and so began their long and happy life together. He was co-owner with his wife Joan, of a tire and automotive dealership located in Ottawa, Ontario for the last decade of his career. He was President of the Sales and Marketing Executives of Hamilton, Ontario, a member of the Advertising and Sales Club of Hamilton, Ontario, and a District Governor of Toastmasters International. He was also a member of the Westmount Kiwanis Club, Oshawa, Ontario and a past member of the Aylmer Rotary Club. He was a member of the Dundas Valley Golf Club, the Edmonton Golf and Country Club, the Burlington Curling Club and the Aylmer Curling Club during his lifetime. He was an active member in the work of the United Church of Canada, serving in many capacities in the Church - a Sunday School Teacher at Ryerson United Church, Hamilton as well as an Elder. He was a member of the Official Board at Appleby United Church, Burlington, Ontario and a member of the Official Board of St. Paul`s United Church, Aylmer and leader of the Worship Committee in his term on the Board. He was the Representative to the Elgin Presbytery and later Chair of the Elgin Presbytery of St. Paul`s United Church. He was also an Elder and served on the Official Board of St. Paul`s United Church, Aylmer, for ten years. He served as a Director on the Board of Directors for Amtelecom Inc., a diversified telephone and cable company, Aylmer, Ontario for ten years. He was also actively involved in the Progressive Conservative Association, now the Conservative Association of Canada, for most of his life, serving on several Electoral Campaigns. He and Joan loved to travel and enjoyed many happy times on their trips to Europe, the United States, Hawaii, Greece, Great Britain, Mexico, Spain, Portugal and several island holidays such as Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Barbados and Aruba, to name a few of their favourites. He retired to Aylmer in 1988 after selling their business property in Ottawa, Ontario, and resided there until his death. His beloved wife Joan, his children, grandchildren and great grandchild will greatly miss his patient, understanding and caring nature. He affected many lives in so many ways and earned the respect of anyone who knew him. He will never be forgotten as his memory will live on with Joan and with his beloved sons, Perry and Doran and their families. Friends may call at the H.A. Kebbel Funeral Home, Aylmer on Monday December 12th from 2:00pm-4:00pm and 7:00pm-9:00pm, where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday December 13th, 2016 at 1:00pm Internment, Aylmer Cemetery.
